Ubisoft 2FA issue finally acknowledged, but still no fix in sight

Ubisoft is one of the biggest video game studios in the world. Founded in March of 1985, the company is based out of France.

Some of the most famous games the studio has developed includes the likes of Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Prince of Persia, Just Dance, Watch Dogs and many more.

They have also developed an application that lets players access any Ubisoft title from a central place, similar to what Steam has to offer.

Users are required to sign in to Ubisoft Connect in addition to the marketplace they have purchased the game from in order to launch the game. That being said, it looks Ubisoft is now encouraging players to enable 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) using their phone numbers.

A few days ago, the company announced that 2FA will be a prerequisite for those who want to play ranked games in Rainbow Six Siege.

But many players who want to add their phone number to Ubisoft’s 2FA are now reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that they are unable to do so.

Many say they have been trying to add their number for months now but are greeted with a “This phone number cannot be associated with your account. Please use another one” error message.

Others say they are getting an error message saying ‘This phone number does not respect Ubisoft security standards. Please try to add a different phone number or contact us for further assistance.’

As title suggests, I have tried to add my number for over a year now to my account and each time I have tried (I don’t do it repeatedly, I wait a week or two) it always tells me that my number can’t be associated with my account. I have tried other numbers as well and it just says the same thing. My number is on the T-Mobile network so there should be no issues here as far as I’m aware. I have tried contacting support through email and through twitter and they just keep repeating the same thing over and over again.

With some reports dating back to October 2021, it looks like the issue has been affecting players for a while now.

Fortunately, Ubisoft has finally acknowledged the issue with 2FA and said that it is currently under investigation.

They also advised that those affected should contact them via live chats to help resolve the problem.
