New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 18, 2022) follows:

Spotify has grown to be one of the most popular streaming services on the planet. Founded in 2006, it has more than 406 million monthly active users and generated a revenue of more than $9.6 billion.

But in the last couple of months, users have reported a number of issues such as being unable to resume music from last played position using Amazon or Google Assistant.

Connection issues with car stereo receivers

And now, users are reportedly having trouble connecting to their car stereo receivers when trying to use Spotify Connect. As it turns out, the issue surfaced after the latest update.

However, Spotify seems to be working just fine if you are using Bluetooth to connect. Users have already tried restarting the app, the phone, car radio, deleting cache, and even reinstalling the app but to no avail.

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this, so I’m apologizing if I’m in the wrong place with this issue. My car radio has a built-in function to connect to Spotify when my Android phone is connected via Bluetooth so I can control spotify on my car radio (next/prev. track, shuffle on/off, etc. ). It has been working for the past couple of years up until today. I still have a stable Bluetooth Connection between my smartphone and my car radio (can take calls, etc.) but Spotify won’t connect anymore (display keeps saying “CONNECTING”). I noticed that the “Spotify Connect” push notification won’t show up anymore either.

So I have a Pioneer Avh-600ex. My phone is a Google pixel 2 xl. I have Pandora and Spotify and some other music apps. When I start my car the radio comes on and everything works fine. I can play Pandora and make calls and I used to have no problem with spotify. That was the app I used most often. Never had a problem but 3 days ago I started the car and Spotify didn’t come up. The radio displays “No device connected. When safe, please connect one and reselect Spotify.” I have had this before but usually I shut the car off and restart and it works. But now It won’t do anything but display that message. I have tried everything to make it work.

As it turns out, Spotify is already aware of the connection issues with car stereo receivers and clarified it is currently under investigation.

Hi everyone, We’ve received reports about car receivers (mainly Pioneer) having connectivity issues. Bluetooth connection usually works fine, but when trying to use Connect it fails. The team in charge is already looking into this, so we’ve merged a few threads here to keep you all in the loop.

Unresponsive ‘And more’ button on iOS

Apart from the aforementioned issue, iOS users are reporting that the ‘and more’ button is unresponsive on the free version of Spotify. People say they tried reinstalling the app but the problem persists.

Whenever I try to remove a song on my playlist by clicking the “and more” button below my playlist picture it won’t let me. I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, I tried powering off my phone, and logging in and out of my account and it is not working. Can someone please help me. I am on an IPhone.

I am also having this issue. I noticed it around 10pm PST today (2/11/22). I have already tried various things including logging out and back in, uninstalling and reinstalling, and even a clean reinstall and the issue still persists. It is present with playlists (both mine and others’) as well as with albums. I am on a second generation iPhone SE (currently running iOS 13.7) and am operating on Spotify version which is currently updated to the latest available version here in the US.

It is interesting to note that the issue apparently doesn’t affect premium iOS users or even Android users of both free and premium versions. Thankfully, it looks like the issue is currently under investigation.

Hey folks, Thanks for reporting this issue to us. We’ve passed your info on to the relevant team, who are currently looking into it.

Update 1 (March 14)

01:50 pm (IST): A user pointed out that Spotify has intentionally removed the third-party connectivity support in order to force people to buy their Car Thing.

Moreover, Spotify team has confirmed that the issue with ‘and more’ option not working on iOS has been resolved.
