Sea of Thieves is a game by Rare that challenges you to venture into a pirate-themed world in the company of other players to complete multiple adventures together.

The worlds and challenges of Sea of Thieves are procedural, looking for each game to be different from the others. Its developers apply the ’emerging narrative’ as one of the game’s attractions.

However, many Sea of Thieves players are facing issues with the progression system. Apparently, Seasonal progress gets stuck, affecting objective tracking, and even getting rewards (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11).

The problem in question is not exactly new, since there have been related reports for several weeks. Many Sea of Thieves players are experiencing issues with the Seasonal progress system (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).


The issue affects various aspects of the game. For instance, the tracking of objectives to complete certain missions does not update as you complete them.

No progress tracked white shadows of fate

Yesterday me and my crew cleared 8 FotD. Since I’m keen on clearing all Bilge Rats commendations for FotD the let me kill most of the whities. However, it’s stuck on 19/50, the same number prior to the gamenight.

Anyone knows this is confirmed bug and/or what to do about it?

Related to the above, the game is not giving players the rewards or credits that they should receive for completing certain quests.

Me and my partner completed two thieves haven runs and rank 5 emissary last night and have no credit towards Athena progress, commendations or gold. Logged in this morning and nothing has updated, but gold is now registering when I sell loot. Guess that was a wasted evening…

Also, some players aren’t even getting gold when selling their loot.

Is it a delay (will we lose all our progress, etc)? We just beat our first Kraken and done a tall tale with no progress or gold for selling loot, etc.

Official acknowledgment, a potential workaround

Some reports suggest that this issue has been common for quite some time. They even point out that using a VPN could help mitigate it as a temporary workaround.


However, although the issue has been affecting players for a long time, it is only now that the Rare team has published an official acknowledgment about it.

The team is aware of issues with a delay in Seasonal progress. We are currently looking into it and will provide an update when available.

The company is currently investigating the glitch, but there is no ETA for a fix yet. We will update this story once new related details emerge.

Update 1 (March 10)

09:36 am (IST): Sea of Thieves support on Twitter said that after they investigated the issue, they found some data to be unrecoverable.

Moreover, as compensation, the support team will offer 50k gold and 30 Doubloons to players who logged into the game between 11:00 am to 11:59 pm GMT on March 6.
