Duolingo is one of the most popular language learning platforms available. It offers an interactive method with progression by levels that encourages the daily practice of more than 30 languages.
Duolingo can also be used for free, so you can try it out without spending anything. In addition, it not only allows you to practice writing, but also pronunciation.
The pronunciation practice system uses the mobile device microphone to work. However, some users are facing issues with that option.
More specifically, Android 12 users are unable to practice pronunciation in Duolingo since the mic is not working or does not recognize speech.
Duolingo mic not working or cannot recognize speech on Android 12
According to multiple reports, the microphone is not working properly on Android 12 devices, which prevents practicing the spoken part of languages on Duolingo.

When users try to record a spoken response to a question by tapping on the microphone symbol, the option closes immediately without recording.
Microphone for audio questions malfunctioning?
When I get a question where I need to record audio, clicking on the Microphone symbol causes it to immediately open and then close without recording anything :C (and then I’m not able to do those questions and I always have to just put “Can’t record audio right now” to move on). Is this a problem for anyone else?

Some users have even tried reinstalling the Duolingo app, but that did not resolve the issue.
Android 12 microphone bug
Why has there been absolute radio silence from the duolingo staff on the microphone issue. I have been trying to search for fixes to it and every thread is basically people saying “i still have this issue.” I reinstalled duolingo and it has the correct permissions for the mic and i still have to turn off speaking exercises. I haven’t been able to practice any pronunciation since i started at the beginning of the year.

Duolingo team is aware
The Duolingo team has acknowledged the issue with microphone detection on Android 12 devices. The company is currently investigating the matter, trying to replicate the glitch to find the cause and develop a fix.
Yes, we are working on a fix. Apologies for the delay, it’s been challenging to consistently reproduce the behavior on Android 12.

However, there are no details yet on an estimated arrival date for a fix. We will update this story once news related to the topic arises.
