Developed and published by Valve, Defense of the Ancients 2, popular known as DOTA 2 is a MOBA video game. Originally designed as a mod for Warcraft III, it is a 5v5 game that encourages players to fight against one another.
While the game itself is completely free-to-play, DOTA 2 players often buy skins, battle pass, and loot boxes. It runs on Valves’ in-house developed Source 2 engine.
The developers frequently update the game that introduces new heroes, events, or brings in balance changes. However, some of these are problematic and often cause trouble for players.
DOTA 2 crashing
Having said that, DOTA 2 players are now reporting (1,2,3,4) that the game is crashing randomly for them after the recent 7.31 update. Many suggest that their game is crashing multiple times during a match, making it impossible to play efficiently.
Some say that the problem is making them lose since the enemy gets more XP because they crash quite often. This is a really serious issue since farming is the key to victory in DOTA 2.
You can see in the image below one of the error messages DOTA 2 players are getting before the game crashes.
Dota started to crash for me after the 7.31 patch and it never once crashed for me before that. When Dota crashed it wasn’t throwing any error at my screen, so I went to find it in files where I installed it. I found mdmp file (mini-dump) and opened it. There it says it throws an Exception code 0xC0000005 and Exception information :” The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.”

I legit cannot play the game right now because there is too much of a risk that the game will crash in the laning stage and grief my game! For those saying to fix my PC or that it isnt happening to them, good for you. However in 4 party games, in a 3 man, all 3 of us have crashed at the exact same time. Seriously, how does one boring patch break the performance and game even more. You didnt hardly nerf bara and did you not think about manacost reduction and storm at the same time!?

DOTA 2 FPS drops
As it turns out, those who can run the game normally are not happy as well. Many players say (1,2,3,4) they are experiencing FPS drops after the 7.31 update.
Generic solutions such as reinstalling the game, updating display drivers, and limiting FPS do not seem to help at all.
So since the new patch came out Ive noticed the appearance of visual bugs, like sometimes I see a DragonKnights wing stuck on the ground and following him half across the map or projectiles flying straight to the sky, these things. Also, I dont know if this is tied to the whole bug thing, Ive noticed that my FPS has dropped significantly since the patch. I always had smooth 54-59 FPS but now Im playing with 10-20 FPS. Is it just me even though I checked every possible reason that might cause this or is this happening to some of you too?

As in video – dota2 fps drop, My in game fps changes from 190fps to around 18fps every 10 secs or so, and always in team fights making the game unplayable. Happens when spectating too. To start, I have tried everything suggested in the sub and in the internet in past posts. Bootcamp Macbook with i7 9750h, i5 Radeon Pro 555x at fullscreen, 720p, most basic settings(+compute shaders + game screen render 100%). Only after 7.31 patch, although I am not sure as I reinstalled bootcamp at the same time.

Unfortunately, DOTA 2 developers are yet to acknowledge the crashing and FPS drop issues. Rest assured, we will be keeping tabs on the matter and update this space once we have more information so stay tuned for updates.
