Fortnite, the hit battle royale game, has a solid base of millions of active players worldwide. This helps its availability in almost all consoles and platforms (including smartphones).

Taking into account the above, the game can also be enjoyed on Xbox (from the ‘One’ generation). But, for a few hours, gamers on Microsoft consoles are facing some sound-related issues (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11).

According to multiple reports, audio in Fortnite is lagging, glitching, or stuttering on Xbox. This issue makes the matches unplayable for many.

Fortnite suffering from multiple audio glitches on Xbox

Fortnite players are reporting that the audio during gameplay is not working properly. Some describe that the bugs appear only during the battles.

There is this weird audio glitch happening in my game and it seems to be affecting only in game audio. It makes audio stutter and sounds like a helicopter. The things that seem that they aren’t distorted is in the lobby and game and party chat. If anybody has run into this issue before or knows how to fix it I need to know as soon as possible because I love the game but can’t play it if the audio is acting up like it is. I play on an Xbox One Series S for reference.

Audio issues

I logged on to Fortnite today to get an earsplitting version of the cuddle team master music pack from the Fortnite crew, it seems audio is delayed and laggy do we have to wait til next patch or what? For me it’s practically unplayable

However, there are other players who report the same issues in the lobby too. Sound in Fortnite is described as laggy, delayed, boosted, or overlapped by affected players (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Audio glitches as of recent

Has anyone been experiencing audio glitches in the lobby and in game recently. I played today and everything did not sound right it was very glitchy. I tried different headsets and controllers and nothing worked. Has anyone else had this issue?

Fortnite team is aware, potential workaround

Currently, the Fortnite team is aware of the reported bugs and is investigating them. But, there is still no estimated time of arrival for the fix.


In the meantime, for those who don’t want to wait, there is a potential workaround that can help. Some players report that uninstalling and reinstalling the game solves audio problems.

IST 11:40 am: A YouTuber has since shared a video that aims to help affected players to resolve the Fortnite Game Chat Audio In Chapter 3 for PC, Xbox and PlayStation.

IST 12:55 pm: Fortnite has come out to acknowledge the issue with Audio issues on the Xbox, saying that they’re investigating.

IST 05:35 pm: According to Fortnite’s official Trello board, a fix has been released for the audio issue on Xbox.
