The Galaxy Watch 4 is Samsung’s latest smart watch. It is available in a couple of variants whose main difference is the design: standard and Classic.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 integrates various features and sensors designed to monitor the user’s health and physical activity. However, some have been facing issues with activity tracking in the last few weeks.

After a recent update, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Health app is not working properly according to multiple reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Health app tracking not working

Health app is the hub that centralizes the physical activity tracking and health monitoring on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. So, a malfunction in the app is quite a problem.

Recently, the watch received an update with some improvements and bug fixes. However, it appears that the update negatively impacted the performance of the Health app.

For instance, some Galaxy Watch 4 users are completely unable to use the Health app as it crashes seconds after opening it.

In some cases, users may start using the physical activity tracking feature, but it will stop abruptly at a certain point, for no apparent reason.

My watch was working perfectly until there was an update a week or so ago.

Now I set my activity to walk and begin on my journey. The watch stops recording this activity and I can’t understand why.

Sometimes it turns my activity off after I’ve stopped for a moment, so I tried turning off auto pause but this still continued.

In other cases, receiving a notification or call causes the fitness tracking on the watch to stop.

Everytime I get a notification and also I got a call during my exercise the Samsung health app stops recording my exercise and I had to keep restarting it to continue it while I never stop exercising while I was on the phone again notification. This needs to.be.fix Samsung. Way too many bugs in the latest update.

The issue is frustrating many as not even a factory reset will solve it, according to reports.

A couple of potential workarounds

There is still no official acknowledgment from Samsung about the problem with the Galaxy Watch 4 Health app. However, there are a couple of potential workarounds that could help mitigate it.

The simplest workaround is to try to restart the watch when the issue occurs:

@Thetinywan I had a similar experience yesterday with my GW4. I turned off my GW4 and then turned it back on. That seemed to resolve the issue for me.

Also, you can try to install the latest Health app update available on APK Mirror repository (without uninstalling Samsung Health) and then wipe the watch. You should also avoid updating the app through the Play Store too.
