Total War: Warhammer III (also known as Warhammer III) is the latest war strategy game in the popular Total War saga.

As its name suggests, the game is set in the Warhammer universe. This means that you will have at your disposal many of the best known locations, items, weapons, species and races to form your armies.

The player must consider multiple aspects when creating an army. This not only includes the abilities of your units or formations but also the units upkeep cost (supply line penalty).

However, some players are facing a severe glitch that negatively impacts the above. The supply line penalty is not reducing when you disband a ‘Lord’ (1, 2, 3, 4).

What is supply line penalty in Total War: Warhammer III?

The upkeep of your units has a base cost (or supply line penalty) that varies depending on the chosen difficulty. This cost increases by a percentage when you recruit a Lord (an army leader).

For instance, if you recruit a Lord that has a 4% upkeep cost, that supply line penalty will increase for all units per army.

This system forces the player to think carefully about how to organize their armies, and becomes more restrictive depending on the level of difficulty selected.

The percentage of upkeep cost that each Lord adds to the army should be reduced by disbanding the Lord. But, this is where some players are experiencing issues.

Total War: Warhammer III supply line penalty not reducing

According to multiple reports, the supply line penalty is not reduced from your armies when you disband the Lord.

So, playing Katarin on Very hard campaign difficulty, I noticed I was seriously, seriously struggling with income all game. Which was odd, since I built every single economic building I could find. Turns out, supply line penalties never actually reduce.

Turns out, after some testing, that there’s a pretty serious problem with Supply Lines. Disbanding a Lord does not reduce them as it should – it DOES reduce them in the UI (the little icon at the top of the screen) but the actual unit cost does not decrease unless the Lord is killed outright.

Apparently, when you disband a Lord from a Total War: Warhammer III army, the UI shows that the supply line penalty was reduced. However, this does not actually happen for gameplay.

Major Supply lines bug, disbanding lords does not reduce supply lines penalty

Currently the supply lines mechanic is majorly bugged in Warhammer 3. I Got to about 60 turns in when I noticed it in my Kislev campaign (Legendary) where the supply line penalty for Lords is supposed to be 4% per Army, but I don’t think it’s faction or difficulty specific. Of course the penalty is less on lower difficulties so you might not even notice.

The supply line penalty will increase permanently every time you recruit a Lord. The expected behavior of the game is the reduction of the penalty when disbanding the Lord, but that is not happening.

Developers already aware

The developers of Total War: Warhammer III are already aware of the glitch. They are currently investigating about it, but there is no information on an ETA for a fix.

At the moment there is no workaround to help mitigate the issue. We will update this story as events unfold.
