Even five years after its release, Fortnite is one of the most popular Battle Royale titles. Developed and published by Epic Games, it pits players against one another with the last team standing winning the game.

The developers have added a lot of content to the game in the form of weapons, skins, and character customization options. But these frequent updates are sometimes the reason why players encounter bugs and issues.

That being said, recent reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) from Fortnite players suggest that the game is stuck on the ‘downloading keychain’ screen and crashing on Xbox. The issue is making it impossible for many to play the game altogether.

It looks like the problem surfaced after the recent update. Some say they tried restarting their console to see if it helps but to no avail.

Players are frustrated and wondering if and when they will be able to play the game. Here is what some Xbox users who are affected by the Fortnite crashing issue have to say.

When loading the game after the update, I get to the sign in step, select my user, then a blue loading screen. The music stops, the spinning loading icon stops, and the game crashes after a few seconds. Happened multiple times, did a full console restart, still happens. Haven’t been able to load into the game. Anyone else having this issue?

Fortnite keeps crashing at “Downloading keychain” While logging in.
It’s only been happening today and it was working fine yesterday, so I still have no idea what’s going on, hoping to get this out and see if anybody else is having the same problem. Thanks!

Thankfully, Fortnite Status has acknowledged the issue and said they are working on a fix but there is no timeframe on when it will be fixed.

We are aware of an issue causing some players on Xbox One consoles to crash while logging in. We are working on a fix and will provide an update when we have more information

Also, they suggested a workaround that involves uninstalling and reinstalling the game since it seems to be working for some.

Update 1 (February 18)

11:30 am (IST): Fortnite Status on Twitter has now confirmed that the login issue with the game has been resolved, however, this appears to be unrelated to the crashing issues during login on Xbox consoles.

Update 2 (February 19)

10:04 am (IST): Fortnite has released a patch for Xbox One consoles to fix the crashing issue during log-in. Moreover, players are asked to relaunch the game to download this update.
