New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on November 17, 2021) follows:

In May this year, Google made an announcement that they will be bringing a new version of the much-dreaded Wear OS. The new OS also marks a new relationship between Samsung and Google.

With Android 11 as the codebase, Wear OS 3.0 brought in much-needed changes to the platform with Samsung releasing the Galaxy Watch 4 powered by the new operating system. But since it is based on Android, the sailing was not smooth as one would presume.

Some Watch 4 users have previously complained that the heart rate sensor is not accurate during workouts while others said that their watch was sending the same text multiple times.

Nonetheless, it is one of the best Wear OS-based smartwatches available in the market right now. With that being said, Galaxy Watch 4 users recently reported that they were unable to make payments using Google Pay.

Many were getting an error message that said ‘Your phone can’t make contactless payments as it doesn’t meet software standards’ error. Reports suggest that the issue surfaced after the latest update.

I ran into this issue this past weekend and got this message when trying to check out. Didn’t think much of it and just chalked it up to some kind of fluke. However, i just visited a store where I’ve used this watch multiple times with no issue and got the same message. Up until now I’ve used Google pay numerous times at different retailers and it’s been working fine. Anyone else running into this recently?

With the last update on my Galaxy Watch 4, Google Pay / GPay is not working. I’m getting an error message like this. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
(Source)

A user said they were able to fix the issue by reinstalling the Google Pay app but others weren’t so lucky. Clearing cache, restarting the watch, and clearing data do not seem to help either way. Those affected by the issue are frustrated since they are unable to make payments on an everyday basis.

While some say that the latest update broke Google Pay on the Galaxy Watch 4, others say it’s Google’s fault. Whatever the reason might be, the error has surely frustrated those who use their watch to make contactless payments.

With Google and Samsung yet to acknowledge the issue, it is still unclear how long users will have to live with the Google Pay bug on the Galaxy Watch 4.

We hope the two tech giants work on fixing the problem as soon as possible. If and when they do, we will update this article so keep an eye out.
