Spotify is one of the most popular music and podcast streaming services available. It faces other big names in its segment such as Tidal and Apple Music.

Spotify users can not only enjoy the service through computers and phones, but it is also compatible with smart speakers (such as Sonos).

Spotify Connect is a feature that allows you to use a particular device (such as a phone or computer) to remotely control playback on others (such as the aforementioned smart speakers).

However, some Spotify users are facing issues with ‘Connect’ when trying to use the Spotify desktop app to control Sonos smart speakers.

Some Spotify Connect users cannot control Sonos speakers

Normally, the Spotify Connect feature allows users to choose from the compatible devices available through the Spotify app (desktop and mobile) in order to control it.

But that option is reportedly not working properly for some users. They are unable to select a Sonos speaker in Spotify Connect through the desktop app.

When users affected by the issue try to choose their Sonos speakers in the Spotify desktop app, an ‘unavailable to control’ message does not allow it.

About 1 out of 10 times my Sonos spear shoes up on my desktop client. I power cycle the sonos, apply updates, power cycle my wifi, and reinstall spotify on my computer. Sometimes it works, 90% of the time it doesn’t. Maybe you could make this feature work as advertised?

My problem is ever since the autoplay to stream devices fixed was rolled out I can no longer consistently see my Sonos speakers in the desktop app. 100% of the time I have find the speakers using the mobile app on my phone while the desktop app is open and then once it’s playing I can control it on the desktop.

I cast most of my podcasts to a Sonos speaker when I work at home. This works for all podcast I listen to, but one specific one does no. When trying to cast this podcast it says that the content is not available. If I have not yet casted and am listening to this podcast I open the device list and it says that the Sonos speaker is “Unavailable to control”.
