The Galaxy Watch 4 is Samsung’s latest premium smartwatch. The device was launched last year (2021) with a set of exciting new features for user health tracking and a refined design.

Like smartphones, smartwatches often receive new features, improvements, and bug fixes through OTA updates. However, sometimes updates can also bring bugs.

For instance, some Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 users report that the AoD (Always On Display) function is not working properly after its latest update (1, 2).

Latest Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 update breaks AoD watch faces

The most recent update of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 reportedly impacts the AoD feature negatively. Now the watch face on the AoD screen is behaving erratically for some users.

The issues that users are facing include desynchronization of the current time and change of the watch face design (to a plain digital watch), among others.

Issues with new Update

After the latest update, my watch doesn’t update the AOD with the time every minute. It will be like 15 or 20 minutes behind, and it jumps up to current time when I wake the screen. Does anyone else have this problem, or know a way around it?

cronosurf wave watchface broken after latest update

Cronosurf wave watchface on GW 4 seems to be broken after the latest update today. After a minute or so it just goes to a plain digital watch mode and does not go back to the diver watch looking face. Uninstalled and reinstalled but still exhibits the same behavior.

Some older watchfaces may not work correctly after latest GW4 system update

My favourite hand-coded watchface that I’ve been using for several years has stopped working correctly on my Samsung GW4 after today’s system update. Specifically, the watchface is not updating while in ambient mode with AOD set to on unless the screen is touched.

At the moment there does not seem to be an official acknowledgment from Samsung on this matter. However, this is normal considering that the update has only been available for a few hours.
