Alexa Guard not working on Echo Show 5 issue acknowledged, but no ETA for fix

Amazon Echo Show is a smart speaker that is part of the renowned Echo lineup. What sets the Echo Show series apart from other Alexa-based devices is that the device features a touch screen.

The first version of the Amazon Echo Show was released in 2017 with the tech giant releasing a new model every year. Device owners can use it to call others over Skype.

The Echo Show lineup also supports Alexa Guard, a service exclusively available for those living in the United States. It is a feature that enables users to see and hear what is happening at their homes while they are away.

But according to recent reports from Echo Show 5 users, it looks like Alexa Guard is not working. Many are frustrated since Alexa Guard is a paid service and is one of the reasons why they bought the device in the first place.

Generic solutions such as reinstalling the app and resetting the devices seem to make no difference. You can see in the image below the message users see on their Echo Show 5 when trying to enable Alexa Guard.

Hello, About a week or two ago I started getting an error every time I turned Guard to away mode, indicating that Guard was temporarily not working with Echo Show 5, and an update would be provided on the status of the problem… but so far no update. I looked on the screen of my Show 5, and it has the Guard shield display in the top right corner, so I’m not sure what the issue is? I have a couple other Echos (Show 8, Dot 4th Gen, Flex) but no other mode gets this error when I turn Guard to away mode. I have searched online, but haven’t found anything yet. Anyone else getting this error or have an update?

I have been facing a notification from the Alexa app whenever I turn on Alexa Guard. It displays a notification saying Echo Show 5 guard detection features not being available. I don’t even own an Echo Show 5 anymore and have talked to both Amazon live chat and phone representative with no solution. We’ve tried all the basics such as reinstalling app, unplugging and restarting all my echo devices, none of them have solved this issue. Please look into this.

Thankfully, Amazon has acknowledged the issue where Alexa Guard is not working on the Echo Show 5 and said that they are working on it. But they did not share any ETA on when it will be fixed.

Users are seemingly frustrated since the issue has been affecting them for a couple of months now. We hope the developers soon find out the root cause of the problem and fix it as soon as possible.
