New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 28, 2022) follows:

A Google account is the gateway to all the useful services that Google offers. Thanks to it, users have access to Gmail, Google Docs suite, Google Play Store and more.

Having said the above, in the last few days, multiple Google users are receiving an email through Gmail advising that the Google account was disabled.

However, after that, the Google account can be enabled again. But, the affected user may receive the same email again and suffer from the same issue later (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Google account randomly disabled for some users

According to multiple reports, many users with a Google account are suffering from the issue. Suddenly, they receive an account disabling notice. Then, the account is enabled, but but the disabling happens again.

Google account keeps getting disabled and restored

Google disabled my account earlier and signed me out of all devices. I signed back in and checked Recent Security Activity, and it said my account was re-enabled. It’s happened twice today. Should I be worried?

The email they sent says: “It looks like it was being used in a way that violated Google’s policies.”, but I don’t think I’ve violated any of them.

I got an email and notification on my phone on the 17th of January informing me that my account had been disabled. The email informed me that my account was being used in a way that violated Google’s policies. I found this strange, considering it’s a personal account that I do nothing but regular things with—email, cloud storage, and accessing other Google services.

The users affected by the problem claim they have not done anything that deserves the deactivation of the account. The issue seems to be occurring randomly and for no apparent reason to explain it.

Google team is already aware

A Google product expert confirms that the issue has already been escalated to the Google team for investigation. So, affected users can only wait for a fix to arrive.

Thanks for your report! Currently there does seem to be a number of others reporting very similar incidents. The only info I can currently provide is that these reports are being passed onto Google and escalated for investigation. If I do receive any updates regarding this, what I can only assume is, unexpected/unexplained behaviour, I will report back to you.

But, it is important to note that the same Google product expert points out that it may take a long time until the cause of the problem is identified and they can resolve it.

To conclude, once updates related to the matter arise, we will update this article. So, stay tuned with us.

Update 1 (February 03)

01:09 pm (IST): A product expert on the Google forum now says that the company has released a fix for this issue.

Google is aware of an issuing causing increased account disables and has has rolled out a fix to resolve this issue, so the problem causing this should now be resolved. (Source)
