Owned by ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks, Showtime is a television network that operates out of New York. It is also available as a channel on Apple TV and Amazon Video.
Showtime provides up to 16 multiplex channels available in both standard and high definition. As of 2018, the OTT platform had more than 28 million subscribers nationwide.
It is also home to some popular TV series such as Homeland, Billions, Penny Dreadful, and Dexter amongst many more. But recent reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) from Showtime subscribers suggest that many subscribers are facing buffering and freezing issues.
Users say they are unable to watch anything on Showtime since the app acts up every few minutes. Some said they tried switching devices but it looks like the problem is affecting multiple platforms.
Generic solutions such as clearing data and reinstalling the app do not seem to make any difference. Below are some of the reports shared by Showtime users affected by the freezing and buffering issues.

Everytime I try and use this app I can get 5 min into a show then it all of a sudden starts buffering and then says playback error. An hour show takes atleast 1 hr 45 min to get through. After I watch the last episode of Dexter I’m canceling my subscription. As of right now I have been waiting 7 minutes for it to start playing again. Horrible!

Constant freezing on any device I choose to stream on. Doesn’t matter if it’s my Phone, TV, PS4, or PS5… Just signed up for the service for the free trial and I’m glad there’s a free trial because I won’t be returning after. I refuse to pay for a service that refuses to operate properly. You’d think that Showtime being around since the 1970s as an HBO Competitor that they would have things under control. However, quality in the 70s is a lot different from 2022…

With some reports dating back to December 2021, it looks like users have been unable to enjoy the service for quite some time now. Unfortunately, Showtime is yet to say anything about the buffering and freezing issues.
We hope developers shed some light on the matter sooner than later since many have been unable to watch their favorite TV shows in the last couple of months.
