New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 20, 2022) follows:

When it comes to MMORPGs, World of Warcraft is undoubtedly one of the most popular video games. Developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, the game is set in the fictional universe of Azeroth.

In the Warcraft timeline, the story follows the events that place roughly four years after Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Originally released in 2004, the game has had eight major expansion packs to date.

While the game is pretty stable, some bugs such as the Mac players’ unable to update Battle Net launcher and mythic gear upgrade issue have haunted players in the recent past.

As it turns out, another issue has come to light. World of Warcraft players are saying that they are getting are unable to login (1,2,3,4,5) to the game using wow.exe and are greeted with a You have been disconnected (WOW51900314)’ error.

But if they use the Battle Net launcher, the game launches normally. But over the years, many have expressed their frustration with the launcher and instead use the executable file so they can avoid the launcher.

This is really a serious issue since some players say they experience lag when using the Battle Net launcher while others say they cannot use the launcher because they use different config files.

When I try to login manually after directly opening wow.exe (not through the battle.net application) it asks for an authenticator code, then gives me the WOW51900314 error code. I’ve tried resyncing as well as removing+readding my authenticator. Doing stuff on the website that requires me to input a code (such as when I readded the authenticator) works fines. As does things that just do the one touch authenticator (such as first logging into the app, or website) also works fine. Logging in after launching WoW through the battle.net app also works fine. Just not when I manually launch wow.exe and have to input a code.

I don’t like to log in to WoW using Battle.net as I find that I had lots of lag so always use the .exe file instead. BC Classic ran fine yesterday using this method but today when I try to log in I get an authenticator code request and it then tells me that I’ve been disconnected with an error code of WOW51900314. I can log into the game using Battle.net with no problem. I’ve deleted the WTF folder and tried again but still have the same issue. I’ve done all updates and there’s no issue with my account. Any help would be appreciated.

As it turns out, the issue surfaced after the January 18 patch. Fortunately, Blizzard has acknowledged the issue and said that they are working on fixing the login error issue players have been facing in the last few days.

They also suggested a workaround that involves removing the authenticator but that isn’t ideal as it may affect your account security negatively.

We are seeing a spike in reports about attempting to manually log into World of Warcraft will fail with error WOW51900314 if you have an Authenticator attached to your Battle.net account. The current workaround is to utilize the Battle.net Desktop app to launch the game. For security reasons we do not recommend removing your authenticator but that does also resolve the issue. Our team is currently investigating this issue. We will update this thread once we have more information to share.

We hope Blizzard fixes the World of Warcraft login error problem in an upcoming patch. Until then, stay tuned and keep checking this space for updates.
