Verizon is one of the oldest telecommunication companies in the United States. Founded in 1983 just a year before the break up of AT&T, the company generated $128 billion in revenue in 2020.

Unsurprisingly, Verizon offers several services such as telephone, internet and features a television service. If you want access to all of Verizon’s services, then Fios is the way to go.

Currently, it has over 5 million customers in the U.S. spread over nine states. That being said, Verizon Fios subscribers are now reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that they are seeing a black screen on some TV channels.

Others say that some channels are showing a message indicating that there is an outage in their area. This is really worrisome since many are dependent on Verizon Fios for TV and news.

Here is what some of those affected have to say.

@verizonfios Shortly before midnight Jan 20, in the middle of the “Good Eats” episode pepper, the all signal was lost. As of 1am Jan 21 the channel is still black, as are channels up to 668. I have not done an exhaustive search to see what else is out, but there is a problem.

A quick look at Downdetector – a service that gives a real-time overview of outages and other issues – reflects that Verizon is encountering issues in some regions.

Thankfully, Verizon Support shed some light on the matter and said that they are aware that some Fios subscribers are facing an issue where TV channels are showing a black screen while others are reporting an outage.

OK, thank you for this information. We have techs working on this issue as we speak. The site must not be updated because this is a known issue. Have you fully reboot your ONT and router as well? ^DMM

Unfortunately, they did not share any timeframe on when the issue will be fixed. Having said that, those affected might have to wait for a while before the problem is resolved.

We hope Verizon is able to find out the reason behind the black screen issue on some TV channels.

Nonetheless, we will be keeping an eye out for further developments on the matter and update this space once we have more information so make sure you keep checking this space.
