[Updated] Google Pixel 6 green tint issue persists after January update, as per some user reports

05:26 pm (IST): Recent reports on Twitter indicate that the green tint issue on the Pixel 6 is persistent even after the latest updates.

Although reviewers have praised the Pixel 6 for its physical appearance and stock Android experience, the number of bugs and glitches affecting users is causing inconvenience to many.

Even if we ignore all the software bugs, there are several hardware issues such as the screen cracking randomly and the phone not charging with some third-party chargers.

And now, users are now saying that they are facing a new issue. Many Pixel 6 owners said (1,2,3,4,5) that their screens had a green tint with some claiming that the issue reduced in intensity when the smooth display feature was turned off.

This led them to believe that the issue was indeed software-related but some still think that’s it is indeed a hardware issue. Looking at user reports, it looks like the Pixel 6 Pro is not affected by the Green Tint issue.

My Pixel 6 arrived this week and it has a green tint down the right side of the display. The issue is reduced when turning off smooth display which leads me to believe it’s software related. I’ve read online the pixel 6 pro has similar issues that should be fixed with the December update, is this the case for the non pro too? I had to import this phone to my country, so RMA isn’t practical for me unless Google can cover shipping and import

This is just a warning for everyone considering to order a Pixel 6. I have ordered 2 Pixel 6 (different orders and manufacturing date) AND checked 2 separate units at Best Buy. ALL of them are showing noticeable off axis color shift – that is the display color on a white background shifts to some rainbow-like color palette (or just green/red) which is driving me crazy when reading text or websites. None of the Pixel 6 Pro’s I’ve seen, nor my Pixel 5, Iphone 13 Pro or Galaxy S9 have this problem. Since I have seen this problem with literally 4 different Pixel 6′ I’m assuming this a general problem with the Pixel 6 display and not just a manufacturing issue with some units.

Some say that the phone uses a cheaper OLED panel compared to the Pixel 6 Pro, indicating that this might be the reason why only the Pixel 6 is affected.

That being said, Google had acknowledged some display issues back in November and said that they would fix them in the December update.

Pixel 6 Pro users may notice slight, transient display artifacts when the device is turned off, and when they press on the power button with slight pressure but not enough to turn it on.

To avoid seeing this, when the power is off, do not cycle the power button. When you want to use the phone, hold the power button down long enough to turn it on.
This does not represent an issue with the phone hardware.

But with Google pausing the December update, many were looking forward to the January update to fix these issues along with the green tint issue.

Unfortunately, Pixel 6 users are still complaining about the green tint issue, suggesting that it hasn’t been fixed yet. We hope Google sheds some light on the matter and lets users know if it is a software or hardware issue.
