Google Fit is the platform for tracking the physical activity of users on Android devices. In this, data and metrics obtained through health products and smartphone/smartwatch sensors are recorded.

But, in the last few weeks, the service has been facing a curious problem. Apparently, it is recording cycling activity data while some users slept.

So, upon waking up, some Google Fit users affected by the glitch find themselves with a set of data suggesting that they did bike exercises while they were sleeping (1, 2, 3).

Google Fit ‘phantom’ bike data while users sleeping

According to multiple reports, the glitch is affecting all the various platforms that are compatible with Google Fit. This includes not only phones, but also smartwatches.

My Google fit add random bike exercises

I noticed that from 3 weeks , my Google fit app started adding random bike exercises in the middle of the night. I did check all settings. There is no other apps connect to my Google fit.

When I delete the exercise, the heart points stay. This lead to wrong tracking and fulfilling my goals. I did try to not use my phone for 3 days, and it’s still the same.

What can I do to fix it?

Issue already escalated, no ETA for fix

Due to the multiple reports that have been emerging lately, a Google product expert confirmed that the bug has already been escalated to higher instances in order to develop a fix.

Hi all,

Thanks for keeping the reports coming! More reports definitely make this look more like a bug than a one-off glitch, so I’ve escalated this to the attention of our community manager. He’s checking into it, and I’ll let you know once I have any updates.

In the meantime, please do use Menu > Help & feedback > Send feedback in the Fit app to share a bug report directly with the developers. They won’t typically reply, but your comments and diagnostic details can really help with their investigation.

However, there is still no estimated arrival date for it. Anyway, in the meantime, there is a workaround that helps mitigate the glitch. Basically, it is recommended to disable Bluetooth on the device.

So , since i turned off the Bluetooth there is no more ghost bike rides. this seems to fix the issue. what should i do?

i have other technologies at my home that i operate over the Bluetooth . and turning it off and on every time is bit frustrating. is there possibility of any solutions on this ?

Anyway, this can be somewhat annoying and problematic when users have more devices at home than they usually manage via Bluetooth.

In the next few days, if new developments related to this issue arise, we will update this article. So, stay tuned with us.
