New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 12, 2022) follows:

Samsung is one of those few smartphone manufacturers that has made some pretty good improvements to its Android skin in the last couple of years.

That being said, they recently released OneUI 4.0 based on Android 12. The latest version of Android brought in some pretty useful features while improving on existing ones.

One such feature that was introduced with Android 12 is the Extra Dim feature. It allows users to dim their screens beyond the limit specified by the OEM.

It is particularly useful if you find your phone’s screen too bright in dark rooms. Unsurprisingly, the Extra dim feature was available as a toggle in quick settings on One UI 4.0.

But now users are reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that the feature has suddenly disappeared. People say that they are unable to find the feature anywhere. As it turns out, the absence of Extra Dim was also reported in One UI 4.0 Beta.

Just updated my Samsung galaxy note 10 to the newest Android update and saw the new “extra dim” button in quick settings, it worked 100% and I even deleted my old screen dimmer app because of the new option, but when the update completed the button completely disappeared from the quick settings and I can’t find it in settings. Anyone know what’s going on because I was definately looking forward to the feature.

Alrighty so since I updated to Android 12 I looked through the new features and discovered the “Extra Dim” button thought it would be a good idea to test it out… welp now my max brightness on my screen is as bright as it would be normaly at 30% brightness without extra dim and here’s the best part the extra dim function disappeared :face-with-tears-of-joy: you guys need to fix this issue

Fortunately, some users have some workarounds that might help bring back the Extra Dim feature on One UI 4.0.

The first one requires users to download and install the Shortcut maker app from the Play Store and search for Extra Dim. The second one involves installing Activity Launcher and creating a shortcut.

You can follow the steps below to enable the feature.

Found a way to use EXTRA DIM.
Download Activity launcher
Search Extra Dim
Its the one under settings and not accessibility
Create shortcut.

We hope Samsung fixes the issue and enables the Extra Dim feature by default on One UI 4.0 in the near future. When they do, we will let you know so stay tuned for updates.

Update 1 (January 18)

A Beta moderator on the Samsung forum has commented on the matter and said that the Extra Dim feature is missing from the S10 due to some hardware limitations. It might be applicable to the Note 10 series as well.
