YouTube 'Show more' or 'Open description' button not working for some desktop users

In recent days, some YouTube users have been facing a curious issue related to the description of the videos on the platform. Apparently, they are unable to deploy that section.

The description of the videos on YouTube is used by the content creators to add related additional information. In some cases, it could be very important (as in tutorials).

However, according to multiple reports, some YouTube users are suffering from a bug where the ‘Show more’ or ‘Open description’ button does not work correctly, as the video info is not displayed.

Reports related to the issue indicate that, when affected users select ‘Show more’ or ‘Open description’ button, the description is never displayed and the ‘Show less’ button appears (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

Description does not expand

Clicking “Open Description” under a video does not pop out the description pane to the right of the video player, the button changes to “Close Description” but nothing happens. Logging out or changing to another account reverts “Open Description” to the classic “Show More” description layout, which does work.

Description not working

I’ve been trying to access the description on a youtube video on my account but it doesn’t let me. A few starting words start right next to the date when it was posted but it doesn’t let me open the full description. I went to my other account and that account let me in the description, does anyone know how to fix this problem?

As the same reports seen above indicate, not all accounts are affected. It is noted that when you switch to another account that does not suffer from the issue, the description can be displayed.

This bug has happened on my account for many weeks. The funny thing is, this bug only happens on my account. This is not a browser problem, I have tested Edge, Chrome, Brave, Opera and Firefox. 1 thing that I notice is my description button is showing “OPEN DESCRIPTION” and another account is showing “SHOW MORE”. Therefore, for those who need access to the descriptions of the videos, they can try using another account. Logging out and re-logging in also reportedly helps.

At the moment, there does not appear to be an official acknowledgment from the YouTube team of this glitch. So, the affected users only have to use the workarounds while waiting for new updates on the matter.
