Developed by Bungie, Destiny 2 is a free-to-play multiplayer title available on Steam. It combines RPG elements with FPS games and uses the game as a service model to generate revenue.

Players can indulge in PvP and PvE game types, assuming the role of a Guardian, who are the protectors of Earth’s last safe city.

However, due to the developers often making changes, issues such as enemies surviving multiple finishers and appearing after kill and Gambit matches crashing the game have ruined the gameplay experience.

Now, many Destiny 2 players are now complaining (1,2,3,4,5) that the matchmaking is broken and unfair. It looks things went downhill after Bungie decided to remove skill-based matchmaking from most PvP modes in June of 2020.

Players are saying that PvP matches are mostly one-sided and not at all fun to play. You can see how lopsided the matchmaking is for some.

Here is what some of the complainants had to say:

I can’t be the only one experiencing this right, it’s like every match is a mercy rule loss. I’ve got an 11 game loss streak that I just broke by a match that ended in 3 minutes. I’m not a bad player by any means, I’m above average but I wouldn’t say im top tier, however, it feels like I’m only playing against top tier players. I swear it was never like this before, even when SBMM was in the game it was never this bad. Btw, I took a bit of a break from destiny and this is something I experienced on my return, I genuinely don’t know if this is something they changed or not as I have not kept up with any of the TWABs

Seems like there’s multiple post on the daily about this. I think it is safe to say that crucible matchmaking has fallen back into the category of “unfun”. Some friends and I got done with a session a while ago. Not only were most matches full of laggy players, but it was also my friends (2 buddies) and I vs the entire enemy team. The rest of our teammates either left the match or literally threw lives away to the enemy team for what seemed like no reason. I don’t mind sweating in comp or trials. In QP however, I’d rather avoid playing at all if it seems like the game is just going to stack the odds against me.

Thankfully, a Senior Community Manager has commented on the matter and admitted that the removal of skill-based matchmaking from Destiny 2 has caused numerous complications.

However, they did not elaborate on how or when the feedback will be implemented.

Not enough room in a tweet to explain. I can say that shutting off skill matchmaking has led to numerous complications in how matches are made and how lobbies are balanced. Hope to have news in the next few months on what we’re planning to address feedback.

We hope the developers listen to the player feedback and make some changes to the Destiny 2 PvP matchmaking algorithm in the near future.
