New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 27, 2021) follows:

Destiny 2, the FPS MMO developed by Bungie, recently received the 30th Anniversary Pack update, in order to celebrate the three decades of its developer studio.

The update of the game comes with a new dungeon called Grasp of Avarice, the Exotic Rocket Launcher Gjallarhorn weapon, new items, new sets and more.

But, since Destiny 2 received the 30th Anniversary Pack, many players have been reporting performance issues, long load times, and other problems (1, 2, 3).

Destiny 2 long load times, stuttering in menu and performance issues after 30th Anniversary update

According to multiple reports, Destiny 2 is currently suffering from serious performance problems that prevent it from being fully enjoyed.

The exaggeratedly long load times and the stutters when going through the interface options are constant after its most recent update.

Bungie, I don’t know what happened, but the load times since the 30th update have been absolutely abysmal. Before the update everything would load in an instant, but now it has taken me a whole minute just to inspect my weapon, yes, I actually timed it.

Another problem is when I load into activities. I was playing some crucible today and when I loaded in my gun and every single person in the game was invisible for over a minute. I did GoA the other day and got stuck in a load screen for like five minutes, which never happens.

There are other issues that reportedly seriously affect in-game performance. Destiny 2 gets stuck, has noticeable FPS drops, and even crashes for some.

I don’t know what happened Bungie but after your most latest patch where you removed the glimmer cost for mods, the performance of the game has taken a nosedive.

Constant menu lagging, menus not loading, game stuttering, crashing, and a slight fps drop. Obviously, something is wrong with the latest patch; the question is, how long is it going to take for you to address it?

PC and consoles version reportedly affected

It should be noted that all of the above seems to be affecting all platforms. According to other reports, console gamers are also facing performance problems (1, 2).

Why is everything so slow to load? Game, menu, inspections etc…

Granted I’m on ps4 but I’ve been away for a month (Battlefield, I regret that) and I’ve noticed everything is slower to load, like painfully slow. Is this a known issue or is it just how it is now?

Edit; just to clarify, several comments says it’s happening on pc, ps5 and Xbox too so it’s not just an old gen problem.

Bungie is already aware, still no ETA for a fix

The Bungie team is currently aware of the reported bugs. These have already been added to the game’s official list of known bugs. But, there is still no ETA for a fix.

Update 1 (February 24)

05:16 pm (IST): Many Destiny 2 players are still reporting menu lagging issues after the latest patch. Players say that they are experiencing massive FPS drops in menus.

Here are some reports for reference:

It’s pretty much putting me off playing the game. My inventory is sluggish even in orbit when I am on my own, wtf? Please escalate this to the top QoL fix because god help us we need it. (Source)

The menus were already slow last season and now they’ve gotten much slower. Whenever I preview a finisher or a respawn animation the sound from it happens before I can even see it. If I open up an armor or weapon to change mods, I need to wait 3 seconds for it to load before I’m able to change anything. I’m playing this game on a fast SSD so I don’t think it’s me. (Source)

On the brighter side, a senior community manager at Bungie has acknowledged this issue and said that the team is investigating it.
