Siri still unable to add or edit notes in Notes app after iOS 15.2 update, Apple allegedly working on a fix

Siri, Apple’s voice assistant for iOS, offers a good number of possibilities to make it easy to use various functions on your devices.

For example, one of the most useful features of Siri was the ability to add or edit notes in Notes app by voice, without even having to touch the phone or compatible device.

But, for months now, the feature has been missing, which of course has left those using it disappointed and complaining. To this day, the feature is not to be seen even after the iOS 15.2 update. (1, 2).

Siri can’t add/edit notes in Notes app even after iOS 15.2

According to multiple reports, when users try to add or edit a note through Siri, they get a ‘sorry, I can’t help with that’ message.

I use to be able to be in my kitchen, cooking and ask my Homepod “Hey Siri, please add garlic to my note weekly shopping.” Never had an issue. About a week ago all my devices now respond “sorry, I can not help with that.” And I am prompted on my IPhone to just open notes. Was this feature taken away? It was so handy and quick especially while cooking.

My partner and I have a shared shopping list note called “shopping list”. On older versions of iOS, I could tell Siri “add bread to my shopping list note” and she would just add “bread” on a new line at the end of the note. It was a very helpful way for both of us to add items to the list and easily share the list. In iOS 15 this no longer seems to work with Siri responding that she “can’t help me with that”. Source

The problem reportedly started on iOS 14.8

If user reports are to go by, the problem surfaced after iOS 14.8, while complaints have been coming actively for about 3 months. This conveys the bug has been around for quite some time now.

Apple is allegedly aware; issue persists in iOS 15.2

According to some reports, Apple may already be aware of the bug, as one user points out that, through a call with an Apple supervisor, they managed to find out that the company is changing Siri’s behavior.

I just finished a long support call with one of the supervisors, who was INCREDIBLY responsive and helpful. After trying all the usual troubleshooting strategies, he reached out to software engineering. It appears that in making some updates/changes with the way that Siri functions, it inadvertently stopped being able to couple to Notes. They know about it, are working on it.

The previous report is from mid-November. But, more recent reports indicate that the issue with Siri in Notes app continues in the current iOS 15.2 update.

So, for the moment, affected users can only wait for an official pronouncement. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any workaround to help mitigate the issue.

It goes without saying, if there is any new development in the next few days, we will update this article. So, stay tuned with us. Meanwhile, you can also check the issues/bugs tracker dedicated to iOS 15.
