For years, Google’s Pixel lineup are known for their stock Android experience, with the Mountain View-based tech giant including some useful features that are used by many.

That being said, a few years ago, the company added the Call Screen feature that allows Google Assistant to answer the call on your behalf with Assistant notifying the other person that the call is being screened.

Users will then see a live transcription of whatever the other person is saying, which is really useful in many situations and especially for those with disabilities.

Now, Pixel users are reporting that the Call Screen feature is not showing a live transcript of the caller’s response whenever they use the feature. Many say that the issue surfaced after the December update.

Pixel owners said they tried clearing the Phone and Google Assistant app data but it is still broken. With the majority of reports coming from Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners, it is still unclear if previous Pixel devices are affected.

Hi, I’ve only started using the call feature today so not sure how long this has been an issue, also I’m in the UK so can only screen calls manually. My issue is when screening a call, I am not seeing the caller’s responses being transcribed on my screen. I can tell a caller has responded as I get the options for assistant to ask the caller further questions.

Hi, I am having the same issue on Pixel 6 pro recently purchased in Canada, Ontario. The call screen feature allows me to screen calls but the other calls’ conversation is not transcribed. I have already tried to re-installing the application and clearing the data/cache. Let me know how to proceed.

Thankfully, a Gold Product Expert has commented on the live transcript not showing on Pixel issue and said that they have escalated it to the Google Phone app team.

The Gold Product Expert also said that the engineers are working on fixing the bug and will patch it in a future version of the app, most probably the next update. However, there is no clear ETA on when it will be resolved.

Hi Simon Ryan and Again, Thank you for the information. I have escalated this issue to the Google Phone app engineers. They are aware of this, and will be working on a resolution in a future version of the app. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next one, but we’ll see. Thank you both for your reports!

In the meantime, those who want to see live transcripts on their Pixel devices will have to wait indefinitely or might have to switch apps. When they do, we will let you know so stay tuned.
