New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 29, 2021) follows:

Launched in 2018 and developed by Apple, Homepod is a smart speaker that was originally designed to work with Apple Music. Upon its release, the HomePod was criticized for its sound quality compared to other smart speakers in the same price range.

That being said, the HomePod is no stranger when it comes to bugs and issues. Owners recently complained that they were hearing popping noise even after updating to iOS 15.

Unsurprisingly, it looks like a new issue is affecting users. According to recent reports from HomePod owners, Siri is responding with ‘Weather for where’ when users ask her about the weather.

Many said they have set the location but Siri seems to be forgetting every time they ask. This is really frustrating for those who are dependent on their HomePods to know the weather conditions outside.

Reports indicate that the issue surfaced after the recent iOS 15.2 update. However, some reports suggest that the bug is also present in iOS 15.3 beta 4.

Since the latest update, everytime I ask something (e.g. “Hey Siri, what is the weather overnight?”, “Hey Siri, what is the current temperature?”) instead of just saying it, it now prompts me each time with “Weather for where?” I have location access on for each homepod. It’s driving me crazy and one of the main uses of the ridiculously still limited Siri. I have two OG homepods and one mini.

Homepod siri broke after 15.2
i update my homepod in french language. After the update i enable custom personal request and now when i say “Hey Siri, weather for tomorrow” or whatever the light on homepod just goes off or the siri voice just try to make the request and goes off. I reset my house in Home app and hard reset my homepod but i already have the issue. Any thoughts? Thanks

Fortunately, a HomePod owner has shared a workaround that seems to help with the Siri weather for where issue. It looks like the recent update requires enabling location services once again.

Close the Home app entirely. Flick up to close it out.
Then re-open. You’ll be prompted to enable location services for all of your HomePods.
Must be part of the update. I just had that happen.

We hope Apple acknowledges the issue and releases a fix in the coming days. If and when they do, we will be updating this space. In the meantime, do let us know if the workaround shared the issue for you in the comment section below.

Update 1 (December 29)

06:06 pm (IST): One of the users suggested a workaround for this issue where Siri does not respond currently when asked for the weather.

– If your HomePods are doing this it’s because you updated them but you have not updated your iPhone to the newest iOS.

– Update your iPhones and then you will see that location services for your HomePods is now in your home settings and not in the settings of each individual HomePod.

– You should get a prompt to turn on location services but if you don’t just go to the home settings and turn on location services after you’ve updated your iPhone. (Source)
