If you have been running the latest macOS Monterey on your MacBook or Mac, then there are good chances that you might have come across many bugs and issues with this OS.

If not many then feel fortunate because users on macOS Monterey have been reporting several kinds of issues ever since its release. And it looks like these issues are not over yet.

Finder and Spotlight crashing on macOS Monterey

Some users are now reporting a new bug in Apple’s latest OS which is causing Spotlight and Finder to crash on macOS Monterey.

Finder as the name suggests, helps you find and organize your files, while Spotlight on the other hand is such a function using which you can search anything on the entire system.

In both Finder and Spotlight, users can use advanced searches to narrow their search results. Additionally, users can also use tags to organize and search files.

However, both these functionalities are currently going through a glitch which is making it difficult to use them. Below are a few reports to elaborate on this issue.

I am having the EXACT same problem. I just updated today and spotlight works for one or two searches after rebooting but then it crashes after typing in a letter or two. (Source)

I have tried rebuilding spotlight multiple times and it does not work for me. In fact often when try and search it statt to show and few results, then the results will disappear. (Source)

Users say that whenever they try to search anything in either Spotlight or Finder, they keep crashing just after entering a few letters.

And while many users say that it crashes at the time of entering a search term, some also point out that it often works, but search results disappear after a while.

This is annoying since many users prefer Spotlight and Finder to search on macOS and if these functionalities are broken, then users won’t be able to make any searches.

Try this workaround

Meanwhile, one of the affected users came with an alternative to the Finder tool that can get your job done and help you find any file on your Mac or MacBook.

just tried it. made a text file with quarterly in the name. search still crashes. weird. and yes, mail does crash on quarterly search. freaky. thankfully, i rarely use search in finder, it’s not terribly reliable or accurate. i use Find Any File (FAF), and it found the file just fine.. (Source)
