New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on November 25, 2021) follows:

YouTube is the world’s largest video-sharing platform where creators upload nearly 720,000 hours of content on a daily basis.

With millions of users streaming daily on YouTube, it becomes heck of a job for devs to maintain fluency on the platform, and thus, users often report bugs and issues with this service.

Both the users and creators on YouTube come across such a number of issues on a frequent basis that we have created a dedicated bug tracker to track down all kinds of problems.

YouTube videos stuck on Fire TV stick

Recently, a new issue has popped out which is bothering YouTube users when watching videos on Amazon Fire TV Stick.

According to reports, some users are complaining that YouTube videos on Amazon Fire TV stick are stuck on thumbnails while audio keeps playing.

Here are some reports for reference:

its like the thumbnail on the screen stays for the YouTube video but the ads are full screen and then for the actual video its the thumbnail and you can hear everything you just cant see it this has never happened before I don’t know how to fix it (Source)

Same! Literally, when I click on a video it was a thumbnail only video. Like it showed the thumbnail in the middle of the screen. I could hear the audio. But it was just a still thumbnail picture. On our Firestick. This happened 11/23/2021. Which was yesterday at the time if this post. (Source)

This issue makes YouTube videos unwatchable and as a result, users can only listen to the audio for a particular video.

Meanwhile, the cause of this bug is not yet known, whether it’s a glitch in the YouTube app or its Amazon Fire TV Stick bug.

Some users say that this issue gets temporarily resolved by restarting the Fire TV Stick or clearing the cache, but it keeps coming back after a while.

The issue remains unacknowledged

Neither YouTube nor Amazon has acknowledged this video getting stuck on Fire TV Stick issue and we hope that it gets fixed soon since users can’t watch their desired video on their TV.

Meanwhile, an Amazon staff member has suggested some basic troubleshooting steps to overcome this bug, however, those affected have already tried these workarounds which include restarting Fire TV Stick, clearing app cache, and reinstalling YouTube app, but no luck.

As of now, we don’t have any idea as to when this issue will be fixed. Rest assured, we will keep you informed as and when anything new regarding this bug comes to our notice.

Update 1 (December 08)

06:05 (IST): One individual claims that they were able to fix the issue by a simple ‘Force stop’.

Same as above, I went into Applications/Manage Installed Applications/YouTube/Force stop. Issue fixed. (Source)
