[Updated] New Discord Christmas notification sound cold-shouldered, here is how to disable or turn off feature

It usually happens every year while entering Christmas that many services theme their platforms and applications to give it a more festive appearance.

However, these types of changes are not always welcomed warmly by the service users. On some occasions, users in fact end up hating the change and rather look for ways to reverse them.

This is exactly what is happening recently with the popular service Discord. According to multiple reports, many Discord users are hating the new Christmas notification sound, and want to disable it (1, 2).

Reports from users unhappy with Christmas update point directly to the new notification sound. Apparently, it replaced the standard without asking first.

As you might expect, the new notification is based on festive jingles. But, it is ‘weird’ for many, with some even claiming it hurts their ears.

Notification sounds suddenly changed?

My discord notification sounds have changed to a weird sound. Everything in Settings->Notifications and under “Sounds” is just different. I can’t even describe it, it was normal yesterday. I have asked friends and googled and can’t find anything about this. Anyone know why it’s changed?

you are taking liberties with this christmas update. it either sounds like a cartoon, a slot machine game or a mixture of both. half the time i have to do a double take because i dont know wether to laugh at fred flintstone walking or to gamble

Fortunately, users discovered a solution to the problem. So, if you want to disable the new Discord Christmas notification, you just have to do the following:

• Go to settings–> appearance–> uncheck ‘Show seasonal themes’

And, in this way, not only will the annoying new notification sound be disabled, but also all of Discord’s Christmas aesthetic theming.

According to the Discord team, there’s another way to disable the Christmas notification, and the process to be carried out is as follows:

Yes! If you go to User Settings > Notifications you should see a soundpack option, you just have to change it to “Classic”. Or you can just disable each notification sound individually as well.

Well, I am sure, Discord users would appreciate if along with the announcement of the change, next time, the service providers also include the ways to stay unaffected by the change. After all, it’s a matter of choice.

go to notifications then hit ctrl + r and it should reset it to default, thats how i fixed it (Source)
