Stadia app on iOS crashing almost immediately when opened? Here's a possible workaround

Stadia is Google’s cloud-based gaming service. Like other similar options, it offers support for multiple platforms and devices that have a screen, such as smartphones.

For mobile devices, the Google Stadia app is available on both Android and iOS. However, iOS users are reportedly suffering from crashing issues while trying to open it (1, 2, 3).

Stadia app on iOS is crashing after a few seconds

According to multiple reports, the Google Stadia app on iOS is crashing within seconds of opening. The issue occurs both in the app and while trying to use Stadia from the Safari browser.

Game launching issues on iOS

Me and my fiance started recently playing destiny 2 on stadia. She started out using her laptop to play. But today she went to play off the stadia app on her phone and it wouldn’t let her do so. It was saying something about chromecast but she wanted to play off her phone. She has an iPhone 11. Is there any way to fix this. She tried to do it the safari way but the game kept crashing and not workING. PLZ HELP

The Google Stadia app crashing issue also brings other related problems. For example, some users report not being able to configure a controller for the Stadia Box.

I just recently got another Stadia premiere box and tried setting up the controller in another room, but I cannot get the app to stay open long enough without crashing (usually like 7 seconds, sometimes a second or two longer).

I am running on latest iOS, tried using iPhone SE and iPhone 12 mini, restarted my phone, deleted the app/re-installed, tried using Safari. But, to connect a controller via WiFi its asking me to use the app

I have tried disabling cellular, I am not using VPN, I tried putting my phone in rice, unplugging the modem and following the seven holy chakras – and nothing has worked.

I’m not sure what to do at this point, can anyone here report this issue to Google? I’ve spent hours Googling this and I’m not getting any helpful tips.

A potential workaround

Apparently, the issue is reportedly related to having a VPN turned on. Therefore, it has helped several users to disable the VPN while login to Stadia.

I figured out my problem. Having a vpn on my phone made it crash when trying to login and setup the controller. I switched it off, set up the controller and then turned it back on and now I can use the app as normal even with the vpn on.

At the moment, no official statement related to the matter has been published. If there is any, we will update this article with the relevant information.
