Marvel's Avengers issue with units & resources disappearing may take time to fix, says game designer

Developed by Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, Marvel’s Avengers is an action role-playing video game. Based on the Marvel Comics Superhero team Avengers, it follows the story of Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel).

The third-person shooter features both campaign and multiplayer gameplay. While the initial roster features Steve Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Ms. Marvel, and Black Widow. Square Enix said they will add more characters for free in updates.

However, due to these frequent updates and with new content added to the game, gamers sometimes experience technical issues with the game. That being said, Marvel’s Avengers players are now reporting that their units and resources have suddenly disappeared after the recent update.

With players saying that they lost up to 80% percent of resources, they were angry since it takes quite a while to gather up resources in a game that generates revenue using microtransactions.

Some said they were able to fix the issue by loading an older save, but it seems many have already overwritten their existing saves games.

When I logged on they said that my resources would be converted, but I lost 85,000 fragments. I had the cap on everything but Uru. I don’t know how an update can mess everything up this bad.

Im on ps5. Low and behold longed in after update and had my resources and units converted to new system…. but almost 80% of everything is gone. I went from 80k+ units down to just 16k. I went from having all resources to just 16k fragments. I looked around reddit, seen others with same or similar issue and for some loading up a back up save fixes issue. So i tried that, didnt work. Now my back up save was updated to new saves of “after” conversion.

Thankfully, a game designer who works at Crystal Dynamics has commented on the matter and said that issues like these are pretty complex and need time before they can be fixed.

No. Fixes like these take time to:
1. Identify the cause
2. Fix the cause
3. Identify impacted users
4. Test the fix
5. Put together a plan to reimburse those users impacted
6. Vet and test the plan to reimburse
7. Put together messaging on plan
8. Enact all said plans

Unfortunately, all Marvel’s Avengers players who lost their resources and units after the recent update may have to wait for quite a while before they even get compensated.
