New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 02, 2021) follows:

It seems that some Mac device users are facing issues while trying to use certain Google Drive features.

More specifically, the reports of affected Mac users indicate that they cannot delete Google Drive files through the Finder.

In addition to the above, other users report a constant ‘Server connections interrupted’ error, also related to the Finder.

Some Mac users can’t delete Google Drive files via Finder

According to reports, when some users try to delete a file in the macOS Finder, all they get is an error message saying that the operation cannot be completed because the file is in use.

Cannot Delete Files In Google Drive Folder (via Finder) – M1 MBP 13″.

I recently upgraded my mobile workstation to a 13″ MacBook Pro M1. It has the latest (11.4) version of Big Sur and is running Drive Ver. 49.0.8.0.

I’ve been having a really odd issue in that I cannot delete files in the Finder. I’m getting a pop-up error of The operation can’t be completed because the item “(name of file)” is in use. Drive has the correct permissions, and deleting files works perfectly fine on my Windows Desktop. I can also move files in Drive via Finder without issue. But in order to delete files now, I have to either use my Windows computer or my iPhone via the Google Drive app, both of which have zero issues deleting files.

Notably, the problem reportedly only occurs on macOS. Users point out that there are no issues deleting files through Windows OS, or even from an iPhone.

The same problem can present itself in different ways. One user reports that, after installing Google Drive on a Windows PC, Google Drive folders can’t be deleted on a Mac with the same Drive account.

‘Server connections interrupted’ Finder error persists in macOS Monterey

Another issue reported by Mac users isn’t exactly new. This is a ‘Server connections interrupted’ Finder error that has been present since macOS Big Sur.

This causes the user to be unable to access content on Google Drive from the Finder. And, the backup and sync feature seems to have ‘broken’.

Been using Google Drive for Desktop (Mac) for several months now to stream files from two linked Google accounts. Suddenly, today, for seemingly no reason, the app is bricked. Literally useless. I have lost several hours today with no solution in sight. Why? There seems to be no documentation on this problem.

The issue: Cannot access remote folders through Finder and backup and sync is non-operational.

If the above doesn’t work, you can also try removing the DriveFS folder. This folder is located at the following directory: /Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS.

Hey there, after having this issue for a while, removing the DriveFS folder did the job. Thanks

At the moment, there is no official statement from Apple on the matter. So it is not known if they are working on a fix.

We will update this article if any new development arises on any of these issues, so stay tuned. You can also check the macOS 12 Monterey bug/issues tracker to be aware of everything.
