[Updated: June 20] macOS 12 Monterey users reporting slow internet speed & Wi-Fi disconnection issues

Ever since Apple released macOS 12 Monterey, users have been reporting several kinds of bugs and issues with the software.

Recently, we have reported issues such as universal clipboard not working, Time Machine backup taking time, and many more. While Apple has acknowledged and fixed some issues, there are still some flaws that need attention.

With that being said, it looks like some new issues with macOS Monterey have surfaced that are preventing users to use the internet. Many users are now reporting slow internet connection speed and Wi-Fi disconnection issues.

As per reports, many users are now facing slow internet speed problems on their Macs and MacBooks after macOS Monterey upgrade.

Users say that the internet speed is way too slow on macOS Monterey as compared to the previous version of macOS.

Here are some reports for reference:

I had normal, fast speeds on Big Sur OS, but when I updated my early 2015 MBP to Monterey 12.0.1 everything online has come to a halt. I compared with my other MBP early 2020 (on Catalina), and the MacBook Pro on Monterey is getting SIGNIFICANTLY lower speeds than my Catalina MBP. Why would this be happening after new OS update? Question, has anyone else been experience kind of bizarre internet connections since upgrading to macOS Monterey (even if your device in an M1 Mac)! Is it just me, but I really feel as though it has had some issues connecting to certain servers occasionally? (Source)

Fortunately, some users discovered that a workaround resolves the slow internet speed problems. It involves unchecking ‘send diagnostics to Apple’ boxes and here’s how you can do that.

Go to Settings > Security & Privacy. Click on the fourth tab (Privacy). Scroll down in the left box and find ‘Analytics & Improvements’. Uncheck ‘Share Mac Analytics’. You might have to unlock the lock on the bottom by entering your password. I also uncheck ‘Improve Siri & Dictation’ and ‘Share with App Developers’, just to be on the same side. (Source)

You can try the above-mentioned workaround and see if it helps. However, it won’t necessarily work for everyone. And for those, another way to get rid of this annoying issue is by downgrading to macOS Big Sur.

Well, slow internet is far better than having no internet at all. A section of users is also reporting that macOS Monterey is automatically disconnecting the Wi-Fi from their system.

Users say that their device is not connecting to Wi-Fi or keeps randomly disconnected.

My MBP 2019 is having issues connecting to KNOWN wifi networks, including my home network. This is extremely frustrating, does anyone else have this issue? (Source)

I’ve tried literally everything from every guide I’ve come across. I even clean installed Catalina. My computer will not connect to wifi. Was not a problem until after the Monterey update. I have a 2017 air if that helps. (Source)

This is not the first time users are reporting these internet issues, many have also complained about them during macOS Monterey Beta 4.

Unfortunately, Apple has not yet acknowledged these issues and we hope that they fix them soon, possibly in the upcoming macOS update. When they do, we will update the space down below with new information.

Users who updated their machines to the recently released macOS Monterey 12.4 say the poor Wi-Fi connectivity and speed issues persist (1,2,3,4,5).
