New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on November 24, 2021) follows:

Google Photos, Google’s cloud storage service for pictures and videos, has been suffering from some album-related problems in the last few days.

According to multiple reports, some Google Photos users are losing the ‘Add photos’ and ‘Save photos’ options on certain albums (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Some Google Photos albums lost ‘Add photos’ or ‘Save photos’ options

Some Google Photos users report that certain albums they created have lost the ‘Add photos’ or ‘Save photos’ options. Therefore, they could no longer add new pictures, nor save them.

This problem affects the ability to add new photos manually. So, if the album has the automatic sync option activated, the new photos will continue to be uploaded to those albums.

The “add photos” option that is below the album name is gone.
In a specific album that I am the own of, the option that is usually under the album name that lists “add photos, save phots, and order photos” do not appear. this is only on this specific album as all of my other albums have these options. These options used to be there and now they are not there all of the sudden. It is still auto adding photos to this album, but I cannot manually add them. I am not close to being out of space. I have cleared my cache, I have un-installed and re-installed the app. Nothing is changing this.

The problem reportedly occurs in albums with thousands of photos

It should be noted that this could be happening in albums with loads of photos. This is confirmed by a Google Photos Product Manager in response to some reports.

In addition, users report that neither clearing the cache nor all the data from Google Photos app helps to solve the problem.

I’ve had a shared album for photos of my kid that family has been adding to for 2 years. A week ago the “Add Photos” button disappeared.

Is the album too big? It has about 9500+ photos in it. I looked at smaller albums I have and they still have the add photos button. Is there a limit? Oddly enough, if I hit “Edit Album” I can add photos, but I am the only one who can do that as the creator. None of my other family members can. Ideas aside from just creating a new album?

Google is already aware, asking permissions to access user albums

Google is currently aware of the problem. However, it is requesting permission from users to access their albums and further investigate the matter.

@ all having the issue
Google asks the following:
If you’re willing to grant Google permission to examine your account to investigate and resolve the issue, please send feedback from Google Photos as explained here under “Send feedback to the Google Photos team” and be sure to include this text:
I grant permission to examine this account for the purpose of resolving #b_207535107″
