The popular cloud-based instant messaging service Telegram gained massive popularity earlier this year after WhatsApp made some pretty significant changes to its Privacy Policy.

Similar to WhatsApp, Telegram also provides end-to-end encryption for voice and video calls. In January of 2021, the app already had more than 500 million monthly active users and is currently the most downloaded app worldwide as of August 2021.

Since the app is frequently updated with new functions such as the recently launched Sponsored Messages feature, users sometimes do experience some bugs and issues. With that being said, Telegram users are now reporting that they are unable to find their downloaded files.

Users say that Telegram downloads are not visible from any File Manager apps. This is really annoying for people who use the app to download multiple files every day.

You can download a file and head over to the Telegram folder to see for yourself if the file you just saved is there or not. The issue seems to be affecting those on Android 11.

same on Telegram Android 8.2.1. Samsung Galaxy A51, Android 11 R?(30) I removed Telegram, deleted Telegram folder from sd card, installed back Telegram and the folder is not created anymore.
I changed Storage Path several times, from internal storage to sd card, also on sd card no Telegram folder is created.

I got the same issues with my android 8.2.7 Vivo V 17. Please someone fix this bug. It is very inconvenient for a student like me who is using Telegram downloaded folders in studying.

As it turns out, Telegram has changed the downloads folder location due to Android 11 system restrictions. The developers say that the files are now saved in “storage/Android/data/org.telegram.messenger/cache” and that their visibility will depend on the permissions the file manager app has.

This is annoying at best since other instant messaging apps like WhatsApp work just fine on Android 11 and has all their media files saved on Internal storage.

Ever since the issue was reported, Telegram has had quite a few updates, but none of them aimed at resolving the issue of the downloaded files. With Telegram yet to say anything on the matter, it is still unclear if it will ever be fixed.

We hope Telegram takes some cues from its rivals like WhatsApp and fixes the issue regarding the visibility of downloaded files. If and when they do, we will update this article to reflect the same so make sure you keep an eye out on this space.
