New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on November 17, 2021) follows:

Waze is one of the most popular transit and navigation apps out there. However, in the last few weeks, it has been experiencing some problems with its indications.

Waze users have been reporting routing issues. They point out that the app would be sending them on roads with heavy traffic or closed roads, even when there are better routes available.

Waze users are reporting serious routing issues

According to reports from Waze users, the service has become much less reliable in the last few weeks. Although the app take them to the destination, it does not choose the best routes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

In some cases, Waze is reportedly taking users to the least convenient routes. This means that trips can take much longer than expected (1, 2, 3, 4).

Well I tried this again after a couple years and waze till isnt good. Tried to use this for a 400 miles trip across a different timezone. The arrival time was in the wrong timezone and was pretty insistent that I drive the longest possible route. When trying to pick a different route it would so say something went wrong. Maybe it’s only good for short trips. I will never know.

In addition to the above, Waze is not offering correct traffic readings. This reportedly produces that, instead of offering the clearest routes, users get the ones with most heavy traffic.

This app used to be amazing. Now it is clearly lost its quality. It will get you to your destination, but if it takes you around traffic or straight through it feels like a personal choice the app will make based on some outside decision. Today it took me on a detour to avoid traffic, i listened and 15 mins after sitting in more traffic it rerouted me back to the original traffic jam. What should have been 30-45 mins of traffic ended up being over an hour including backtracking and wasting gas.

Other problems related to incorrect navigation readings

There are other reported problems that stem from the bad indications that Waze would be offering. For example, some users report that the app takes them to closed or non-existent roads.

Waze used to be the best. Like others, though, since the last update it spends a lot of time telling me to turn on non existent roads, and it often isn’t giving the best route. Sometimes, it even wants me to edit the highway and then get back on the highway. What? I now have to use two apps, maps AND ways, so I have the best route info and surroundings info. It could definitely be better.

At this time, the Waze team has not offered official statements on the problem. Therefore, it is not known if they are already working to resolve the issue.

If there is any new development in this regard, we will update this article. So, stay tuned with us.

Update 1 (May 23, 2023)

05:05 pm (IST): Some users are now reporting (1, 2, 3) issues with Waze navigation where it sends them to routes with heavy traffic, closed roads, and places where road construction is going on.

Luckily, there’s a potential workaround that might help you fix this glitch. You can check it out here.
