Discord favorite GIF capped to 250; some report crash on accessing Emoji, Sticker or GIF menu
Discord is one of the most popular messaging platforms in the world with more than 150 million monthly active users. According to a report by the WSJ, the company generated $130 million in revenue.
Developed by Discord Inc., the software is frequently updated which sometimes brings in new features or improves on the existing ones. With that being said, it looks like the developers have shot themselves in the foot.
Discord Favorite GIF list capped to 250
Many users were angry after they discovered Discord had capped the favorite GIF limit to 250. People said that developers did not notify them of the changes beforehand and as a result, many have lost a good portion of their favorite GIFs.
Reports suggest that the changes were made in the latest update, with many saying that their favorite GIF library is now an unorganized mess.
Some say that the list also shuffles randomly, which is frustrating since users are unable to quickly find the GIF they need. Here is the message you will get if you try to add more than 250 GIFs to your favorite list.
i had over like 2000 gifs saved in my discord favorites from literally like 2019 but today i open discord and when i tried to save a gif i saw it said “maximum favorites is 250” and i was confused because that never happened before, so when i opened my favorite gifs tab i saw that literally every single one is gone??????? why did my entire favorite gifs tab get wiped i had literally over 2000 wtf why would discord do this???
Lost all my favorite gif’s (didn’t logout). Looked through other posts here but didn’t see anyone mention not being able to rebuild their gifs either. Tried closing and reopening the Discord app, also logged out and back in. I can favorite a gif right away, then within 30 seconds it’s removed and anytime I click on the star to favorite, I get the pop-up “added to favorites” but the star remains unlit and there’s nothing in my favorites. Anyone else in the same boat right now?
Since then, Discord has acknowledged the issue and said that it was an unintentional side effect when they tried to sync favorite GIFs across all devices.
This was an unintended side effect that happened when we synced favorite gifs across all devices. Sorry about this!
A staff member also said that they would raise the limit to a number where most users would not hit the cap. They also added that the disappeared GIFs would start coming back slowly.
However, there will still be a limit to how many GIFs one can add to their favorite list. In the meantime, a Reddit user has shared a script you can use to backup your favorite GIF list.
Discord crashes on accessing Emoji, Sticker, or GIF menu
Apart from the limited GIFs users can store in their favorite list now, user reports indicate that Discord crashes whenever they try to access the Emoji, Sticker, or GIF menu. The issue seems to have surfaced after the latest update.
@discord when i click on emoji to open up emoji menu discord crashes. im on pc btw. can u pls help me
@discord why does my client crash whenever I open the reaction / emoji menu?
It is still unclear what causes Discord to crash when users try to access the menu. With Discord is yet to acknowledge the issue. we have no way of knowing when this will be fixed.
Nonetheless, when Discord developers fix the crashing issue, we will update this article to reflect the same so keep an eye out on this space.
