Original story (published on November 12, 2021) follows:

Battlefield 2042 is the successor to the much-acclaimed Battlefield V and will be released on November 19 this year. The latest installment in the Battlefield series will ditch the single-player campaign in favor of multiplayer gameplay.

Also, it will be the first time the series will support cross-platform play. Set in the near future, Battlefield 2042 has shaken up things quite a bit and introduced several new features that make the gameplay more interesting.

Battlefield 2042 randomly crashing

Nonetheless, last month when the beta started, players reported that they were having issues pre-loading the game.

Now many Battlefield 2042 players who were able to get early access to the title are saying (1,2,3,4) that the game is crashing for them on consoles. The reason behind the crashes is still unclear since they are totally random.

So glad it’s not just me. I play 5/10 minutes at best then it freezes and returns me to the Xbox homepage. Same problem with the beta and both times I have contacted EA with no luck as they attempt to push the blame client end with ‘connectivity’ problems. I am certain this is not the case and the fact that I am still having the same issue with the full game is a massive concern for me now not knowing what my next steps should be. I doubt it’s even being looked into to be honest.

I decided to give the 10 hour Trial a try on Series X. I didn’t even make it 5 minutes into the match before my console fully shutdown. I tried again and within 2 minutes of the match starting, my console crashed again. Thankfully it was only the trial and I didn’t pay for the game but now I’m no longer interested in the game because of this.

Those who were looking forward to buying the game or already did so say that the issues are wondering if EA will be able to fix all issues with the game before it is launched.

Thankfully, EA Help said that they were aware of Battlefield 2042 crashing and said that the problem is currently under investigation.

Hey Jake, thanks for reaching out to us, and apologies for the delay. I understand your concern about Battlefield crashing on your Xbox. I’ll do my best to address your concern. This is something that our team is aware of and is investigating further…. https://bit.ly/3qDLlOO

Controller mapping issues

The lucky few who did not experience crashing issues with Battlefield 2042 are reporting that the controller mapping is not working for them. Players say that the game was crashing for them as soon as they touched controller mapping.

The game crashes if you try to change the “Ground Vehicle Driver Controls” in the controller settings. The game is frustrating currently but i feel like its mainly cause i haven’t adapted to it yet. Flying anything is a pain.

I have had the same issue. After setting custom mapping for vehicles, I cannot change BOTH the sticks and buttons back to DEFAULT, or the game crashes. I can set either one of them back to default, but as soon as I change the other, the game crashes.

If and when EA releases a patch that fixes the crashing and controller mapping issues, we will update this space to reflect the same so make sure to keep an eye out.
