Original story (published on November 9, 2021) follows:

Gmail app for iOS 15 devices would not be working as expected by some users.

Some reports from iOS 15 users point out that there is a notable stuttering issue present in the Gmail app, which causes an unpleasant effect that collides with the general iOS smoothness.

Stuttering issue while scrolling through emails on Gmail app for iOS 15

The problem reported by iOS 15 users is that, while scrolling through emails, the interface has some small hangs or lags that visually interfere with the experience (1, 2, 3, 4).

Taking into account that iOS usually seeks to offer the same smoothness in each element of the system, switching from another application to Gmail can cause a negative visual impact.

The issue within the Gmail app. See the stuttering while scrolling? When it stutters like that it’s usually on images, and it also lags touch input too. It’s REALLY bad to use the app on my iPhone 13 Pro.

In addition to the stuttering issue while scrolling through emails, some reports claim that there would be lag in touch input. That is, the interface of the app would not respond instantly to the touch.

Is anybody else having this problem with their iPhone? When scrolling I get a very bad screen ‘stutter’.

I have the iPhone 13. I’ve not had this issue before, just noticed it this morning after my apple wallet and leather case purchase. I was reading the confirmation email and it was very bad. I’ve recorded a short on YouTube.

The problem was present on iOS 15 beta stage

It should be noted that this problem is not exactly new. During the iOS 15 beta stages, users reported similar situations with the Gmail app.

So, iOS 15 stable version has also inherited the issue. Also, it would only be happening with the Gmail app. Therefore, the problem would be Google’s fault, although this is yet to be confirmed.

Issue escalated to Gmail team

At the end of October, a Google product expert confirmed that the bug had been escalated to the Gmail team.

The issue is already escalated to the Gmail team and they are presently looking into it. I shall post an update when I receive a word back from them.

At the moment, there are no more official pronouncements from Google or product experts on their forums. Therefore, affected users can only wait for updates on this issue.
