[Update: Apr. 12] New Minecraft launcher not working, update or installation problem surfaces

From just a video game, Minecraft has turned into a sensation enjoyed by people of all ages. It is one of the best-selling video games of all time with more than 140 million active users every month.

Since it is an online-only game, the developer Mojang Studios frequently pushes out some updates to the game to keep it fresh. However, some of those cause serious issues at times.

Recently, some players complained that animals, villagers, and armor stands were disappearing for them on the Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

Now, some recent reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) suggest that many Minecraft players are having issues with the new launcher not working at all. While some say that the game fails to launch with several errors popping up, some say that the launcher does not load for them.

Having said that, the game is unplayable for everyone affected by the new Minecraft launcher not working issue. We can just hope Minecraft developers take a look into the matter and acknowledge it.

Below is one of the many errors Minecraft players are encountering.

Whenever I try to start my minecraft launcher, I keep getting this error message: “Minecraft Launcher is currently not available in your account. Make sure you are signed in to the Store and try again. Here’s the error code, in case you need it: 0x803F8001.” So far I haven’t found out how to fix this. It would be great if I could get some help.

Hello all! I just installed the new minecraft launcher through the xbox app on Windows 11. Only thing is every time i launch it, its like it resets. I have to login again every time and my profiles don’t save (optifine, vivecraft, forge ect…) It just resets back to only having the 1.17.1 profile. Anyone else having this issue?

Hello! I tried to installed the new launcher today, but when I tried to launch it, it didn’t open. Nothing at all happened to indicate it was working. I tried re-installing Minecraft, removing the old launcher, etc. but it doesn’t want to open. Using the old launcher again now, and it works perfectly save for the fact it spams me with the prompt to uninstall the old launcher. Any idea on what might be wrong?

Unfortunately, this is not the only issue Minecraft players are facing right now. Some have also complained that they are facing problems installing the new launcher.

So, I open my launcher, and there’s a red bar at the bottom announcing the “fancy” new launcher. I click it and it takes me to the Microsoft store, where I click Install. Then… nothing happens. No download window, no progress bar, nothing in my downloads folder. What am I doing wrong?

I can’t install the new windows 10 Minecraft launcher, I can’t install it from microsoft store for some reason and downloading the file doesn’t work too

Then there is the Optifine installation issue. Many are reporting that the Optifine version of the game is not installable for them with some reporting that it is causing their system to crash.

My computer keeps crashing every time I try and re-install optifine so that I can play minecraft with it on the new launcher (they unified bedrock and Java launchers). Any tips on how to fix this?

Changed to new launcher and cant install forge or optifine to it, any suggestions?

But as it turns out, it is not Minecraft developers’ fault and an issue with Optifine itself. The company has since then acknowledged the issue and said a fix will be coming soon.

Small Update to the Announcement: Currently, updating your Minecraft launcher causes OptiFine’s installer to not work properly, it won’t find the new launcher_profiles.json file. Reported here: https://github.com/sp614x/optifine/issues/6355. A fix will be announced when available. – Kai

The number of issues with the launcher indicates it wasn’t ready for a public release yet. If and when Mojang Studio acknowledged the issues with the new Minecraft launcher not working for many, we will update this space with more information.

1:19 pm (IST): This issue where the Minecraft new launcher isn’t working has since been acknowledged by the game maker, saying that they’re working on it.

10:53 am (IST): A YouTuber has since come out to share a few fixes and workarounds and you can check it out in the video below.

09:20 am (IST): Some Minecraft players (1,2,3,4,5) are reporting an issue where the launcher is not updating or starting.
