If you are into co-op first-person shooting video games, then you must have heard of Deep Rock Galactic. Ever since it was released in May of 2020, the game has been praised by both players as well as reviewers.

Developed by Ghost Ship Games and published by Coffee Stain Publishing, Deep Rock Galactic allows up to 4 players to team to explore the procedurally generated caves. Like Crysis, the game features a 100% destructible environment that players must use to their advantage at times.

It places players in the shoes of four space dwarves who undertake several missions such as assassinations, finding lose equipment, and even staling alien eggs. It is set on the planet Hoxxes IV.

The game allows players to switch between the regular version and an experimental where developers introduce and test new features that sometimes make it to the original server just like PUBG.

Having said that, some Deep Rock Galactic players are now reporting that they are unable to switch back to the regular version after they visited the experimental branch.

After finishing my engineer promotion missions I decided to check out the experimental branch, it crashed a couple times and I got a crash report screen, so I reinstalled. Launched the experimental branch noticed it put me in the tutorial so I skipped it then noticed it did not load my main save, I thought launching the normal version would restore that but now the normal version wont load, it does the little start up but after the GSG logo it crashes without a crash report.

So after seeing the trailer for season 01 and that the new guns were available on the experimental branch, I decided to try it out. Great fun, but now when I swap off the experimental branch on Steam, the game crashes after the Coffee Stain logo. Did installing experimental mess up my base game? How do I fix this?

Many say they have tried reinstalling the game and verifying that isn’t working. This is a serious issue since almost everyone who checked out the experimental branch recently is unable to play the game the regular version.

Fortunately, it seems like Coffee Stain Publishing is aware of the issue and said that they are working on a fix. The developers also shared a workaround that makes it possible for those affected to switch back to the regular version and play normally.

If you return to the live branch and experience crashes, we’re aware of it and working on a fix for tomorrow. You can enter `-disablemodding` in the launch options found by right clicking the game title and selecting properties from your steam library to solve that issue.

When Deep Rock Galactic developers release a fix for the crashing issue, we will update this article to reflect the same. In the meantime, if you want to play the game, disabling mods is the only way to go.
