[Update: Oct. 25] Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta V10.2 update arrives on Friday, says Elon Musk
New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…
Original story (published on July 08, 2021) follows:
The long-awaited Full Self-Driving update has been getting delayed over and over again for the past couple of months.
Back in June, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had said on Twitter that the FSD update would be released in around two weeks.
He had also stated that Full Self-Driving Beta will be based on Tesla’s recent adoption of a “pure vision” approach. This is essentially the ditching of the trusty radar tech in favor of the more modern, camera-only vision.
More recently, Elon Musk had also confirmed that Tesla would be releasing the new Plaid UI for all models with FSD computer and that all Model 3/Y can be upgraded to have FSD computer.
Yes, updated UI coming with FSD wide release. All cars with FSD computer will have new “mind of car” view. All 3/Y can be upgraded to have FSD computer.
Also mentioned was a new ‘mind of car’ view, which while not exactly clear, is probably a reference to the new driving visualizations that show how the car identifies its surroundings.
And now, Elon Musk has taken to Twitter once again to give out yet another release date for the Tesla FSD Beta V9 update, saying that Beta 9 will start uploading at midnight California time on Friday.
While ‘uploading’ is a rather vague term, we can take it as a starting point following which the update will be trickling to select Tesla owners.
The Tesla CEO then also went on to give out a warning saying that the update is still in its early beta stages. Therefore, minor bugs and issues can be expected.
That said, be sure to go through our dedicated Tesla section for more of such update-related stories along with coverages on some of the most commonly-faced recent issues.
Update 1 (July 19)
In a couple of tweets, Elon Musk has said that the optional Auto-shift (Auto direction) setting will come to all FSD equipped cars. On the other hand, the FSD rev 10 beta update is expected to be rolled out on a wider scale whereas the rev 11 beta will be rolled out widely.
You don’t even need to touch the shifter in new S. Auto detect direction will come as an optional setting to all cars with FSD.
Wide beta maybe with FSD rev 10, definitely with rev 11
Update 2 (July 26)
Elon Musk on Twitter yesterday said that a new update 9.1 will be released on Friday at midnight with several improvements.
Update 3 (July 29)
While FSD stable is still awaited, the 2021.24 update just went live with Disney+ support, car wash mode, mirror auto-dim, dashcam improvements, range display, and more.

Update 5 (August 31)
One of the Beta testers of the Tesla FSD Beta 9.2 has shared a video of the self-driving car doing its thing and it is pretty impressive what the system can do, even in its Beta stages.
Now, Elon Musk has Tweeted, confirming that the FSD Beta 10 update should be coming soon. In true Elon fashion, he hasn’t revealed anything meaningful with regards to the exact timelines for the release.
Update 6 (September 2)
Elon Musk has Tweeted yet again, this time confirming that the FSD Beta 10 rollout will start at midnight on Friday next week. Additionally, he says that the Beta 10.1 should be good enough for opt-in requesting about 2 weeks later.
Update 7 (September 18)

Update 8 (October 08)
It is finally here! Well, sort of. Elon has confirmed that around 1000 owners with 100/100 safety score will get FSD Beta 10.2 on Friday midnight.
FSD Beta 10.2 rolls out Friday midnight to ~1000 owners with perfect 100/100 safety scores. Rollouts will hold for several days after that to see how it goes. If that looks good, beta will gradually begin rolling out to 99 scores & below.
Update 9 (October 25)
Elon Musk has come out to note that they’re seeing some issues with FSD 10.3 and as such, they’re rolling back to 10.2 temporarily.
