Here’s the crux of the article in video form:
New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…
Original story (published on September 25, 2021) follows:
COD Warzone is currently the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise. It is also one of the few free-to-play games in the series.
Released in March of 2020, it was soon integrated with COD Black Ops Cold War. As a result, a number of weapons and skins were introduced to the game.
Having said that, the game has had so many bugs that we have created a dedicated COD: Warzone bug tracker. Some recent COD: Warzone bugs that affected players include the Zombies Mastery Camo not available bug and Blueprint blitz not showing up.
Unsurprisingly, Warzone players are experiencing some more issues with the game. According to players, the navigation menu is slow and laggy after they updated the game to the recent version.
Some initially thought that their system was acting up but the issue persisted even on high-end systems. Players are frustrated with Raven Software breaking things in-game with every update.
The COD Warzone menu lag is so bad that players say it is hard to navigate, let alone change settings.
Hi. After reinstalling the graphic drivers with DDU I’ve come across heavy lags/freezes in the menu. When I choose a different tab or back to the previous one my FPS go down to about 10, which results in massive lag/freeze. I had no problem with it before.

is Warzone on PC dropping FPS in Lobby when switching through weapons, battle pass & operators ? Happened to me once the game was updated.

Warzone developers are yet to acknowledge the issue. And as if this wasn’t enough, players seem to be affected by another bug that is making it hard for them to choose an operator.
Reports suggest that the game lets them hover over a locked operator but they cannot pick any of the operators they have unlocked.
Operators are playable characters with unique finishers and challenges. Every battle pass introduces an operator or unlocks customization options for existing ones.
So I purchased a Mara bundle last night, and as I finished building my load outs, I go to equip her as I did not have her unlocked before buying the bundle. But every time I scroll over to select her, the game overshoots her and goes to another operator. I have tried restarting the game and my Xbox multiple times. Is there anything else I can do to equip her?

My operator selection tab is completely bugged. When I scroll through operators the game starts lagging and skips over certain operators automatically. I can’t even go to the favorites tab because the game lags out and acts as if I’ve never hovered over it. I’m on PS4 btw. Anyone has the same problem?

The Warzone operator selection bug is still unacknowledged by Raven Software. We hope the developers release a fix for the Warzone menu lag and operator selection bug since they are making the game unplayable for the majority of players.
Update 1 (September 27)
12:25 pm (IST): Days later and this issue continues to persist and now, one of these affected users has shared a video depicting the matter in question.

In the wake of this, the community has been actively sharing possible workarounds to help those facing issues with FPS drops or lag. The most commonly approved workaround is to tweak your graphic settings as highlighted in the video below:
Further, you should make sure that Windows is set to Performance mode rather than Balanced or Power Saving mode as these two modes will result in frame drops while gaming. An individual highlighted these and a few more things that you should do. Check it out below:
Double check your AdvSettings.cfg file is set up right, saved, and Read Only. Then just run through this video and this one to make sure Windows is set up for optimal performance. This doesn’t really answer your question about why this happens, which ranges from “the game is optimized like shit” to “the game is spaghetti code and needs a reinstall each patch”. I will say that I saw dramatically fewer frame drops (I called it “losing the frame lottery”) when I started running Intelligent Standby List Cleaner (explained in the the first vid I think) to passively clear RAM, since I think the game leaks RAM like a motherfucker. Give those all a try, and let me know! (Source)
Update 2 (September 28)
11:42 am (IST): Raven software now says they’re aware of the issue in Warzone causing the low FPS in the frontend menu.
As they continue to investigate, the issue has been added to the Trello Board.
Update 3 (September 30)
04:14 pm (IST): Raven Software confirmed that they updated Warzone to adjust the frequency and volume level of the Numbers event audio. However, the lag that has been troubling PC players is here to stay for a while.
We have updated #Warzone to adjust the frequency and volume level of the Numbers event audio.
Even through all the noise, we heard you loud and clear! The feedback is appreciated. (Source)
Update 4 (October 01)
04:30 pm (IST): Season 6 for Black Ops: Cold War and Warzone is expected to arrive on October 7. So it’s possible that we may see some improvements if not a complete fix for the performance issues PC player are facing.
Update 5 (October 08)
10:51 am (IST): A fix for the issue where players are experiencing performance issues in the frontend, such as low FPS and hitching has been scheduled.
Worth noting is that, this wasn’t addressed with the new Season 6 update so affected players might want to look foward to an upcoming update.
Update 6 (October 09)
02:20 pm (IST): Raven Software has confirmed that several Warzone players are facing menu hitching issues.
Moreover, they have identified the cause and are working on a fix that should arrive as soon as possible. However, no ETA has been provided as of now.
Update 7 (October 14)
05:17 pm (IST): Raven Software confirmed that it released a fix to address the remaining menu hitching issues in the game. Thus, players should no longer notice lag in the menu.

Update 8 (October 23)
10:17 am (IST): Raven Software — via its Trello board — has confirmed that a fix for the menu hitching issue has been released. It’s likely that the new update released on October 22 brings the fix.
