New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on September 27, 2021) follows:

Google is undoubtedly one of the largest tech companies in the world. The Mountain View-based tech giant has its smartphone lineup, with the first Google Nexus released back in 2010.

Even though Google invests billions of dollars in technology, it still lacks in-house logistics and often outsources to other companies.

Unsurprisingly, Google has turned to partners like FedEx who handle the shipping and delivery process on their behalf.

And while it may sound like a logical step to let a known company like FedEx ship Pixel devices, it isn’t. In the last few years, there have been many reports of FedEx employees not delivering Pixel devices.

Many say that they never received their phone while FedEx marked the package as delivered. Some say that they are charged for priority shipping but they never receive their order on time.

What’s worse is that Google has refused to help customers with the refund process since it is technically FedEx’s responsibility to make sure the product is delivered.

I ordered a Pixel 5a and was really excited to move to clean Android. My FedEx tracking said that it was delivered, but it was not, I have looked everywhere. I have been stonewalled by Google as well as FedEx, it seems like Google has just stolen $500 from me. Anyone have any advice or work around? I cannot afford to pay again for a device I have not received.

My wife dropped her 3a in the toilet a couple days ago. Instead of getting it fixed, we decided to opt for the 5a upgrade we had been considering. We ordered hers first with priority shipping ($19). We ordered mine second–just a standard free delivery. I have tracking for both phones. My wife’s phone was supposed to be here in 30 minutes. So far it has made it about 50 miles out of it’s 2,000 or so mile journey. Somehow that has only incurred a “potentially delayed” stamp from their tracking system.

Moreover, customers say that Google suspends their Google account if they apply for a chargeback. We think that it is cheaper for Google to opt for FedEx instead of services like UPS or USPS.

Having said that, Google might let FedEx deliver the soon-to-be-released Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Many people who do not have access to a physical Google store are thereby thinking if they should buy the Pixel 6 or not.

This brings us to the question, should Google ditch FedEx for Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro shipping? Our take is that customers should have the option to choose from various delivery partners so they can choose what works best for them.

Update 2 (November 08)

1:10 pm (IST): As more and more people shop for their Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices, more horror stories keep popping up.

There is even a Megathread on Reddit for users who have had their Pixel 6 shipments botched by FedEx with both Google and FedEx customer support appearing useless.
