Some Norton 360 users still unable to launch or reinstall app on macOS Big Sur, possible workaround inside

Norton 360 is a popular antivirus software that keeps an eye on viruses and spammers that could ruin your crucial data. It covers both the Windows and macOS running devices.

It’s an all-in-one security solution that offers a bunch of services such as protection against malware, secure VPN, password manager, PC Cloud Backup, and more.

However, there’s an issue being reported by the users who are using Norton 360 software on their Macs. As such, some macOS Big Sur users running Norton 360 are facing trouble while opening or re-installing the Norton app.

In detail, after upgrading to macOS Big Sur 11.5.2 and even the latest macOS 11.6, some users are unable to open the Norton app. However, this is not a new case, the same problem has also been reported in the past.

I am running macOS Big Sur, version 11.5.2 and for some reason, my Norton 360 is not launching. Would like to know if there is a work around for this issue – Source

Unable to open Norton App. Have tried to add extension on Safari – no joy. Norton Safe web and Vault running fine. Have tried re-installing – no joy. Can open my subscription account only. Help please. – Source

My Norton 360 for Mac quit working, won’t even load up after updating Mac to iOS 11.5.2. I uninstalled and redownloaded, but Mac won’t even let me open the Norton 360 install file. Norton 360 has been a continual pain on the Mac. Will there be an update? Is there a fix? Or should I use another product, or do I even need any? – Source

Back then, a user reported a compatibility issue for Norton app after upgrading to macOS Big Sur 11.5.1. While another user had complained about the re-installing error with the application on Mac.

A user tried workarounds like adding an extension on the Safari browser or re-downloading the app but couldn’t get through it. Most users are still stuck in the situation where they can’t even open the app.

Meanwhile, some of the affected users have found a way out. A user on the community forum claims that Norton Support had replied to the issue and provided a link to the removal tool.

After following some instructions, he was then able to download and install Norton 360. This might help those users who have been searching for a solution for a long time.

Moreover, in another case, the Norton Remote support became useful in sorting out the error. The support team helped to overcome Norton 360 issue by running some software to delete Norton completely.

Apparently, the data was restored after uninstalling the app and everything was back to normal. The affected users can try these above-mentioned solutions to make the application run again on macOS-powered devices.

Although, the company has not said anything as to why the application suddenly stopped running. But after looking deep into this whole scenario, the culprit seems to be the macOS software.

Apple has tight security and it never compromises with users’ data. Maybe it’s possible that the new macOS Big Sur software update had brought some security enhancements that were not compatible with Norton 360 app.

While this whole situation remains a mystery and the question still remains as to why this is happening. We will keep you updated on this matter as soon as any permanent solution for this issue comes up, so stay tuned.
