Spotify working to fix issue with empty friend feed (Connect With Facebook) in Windows & macOS app
With over 350 million active users, Spotify is used by many across different platforms including Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. Ever since it first came out in 2006, Spotify has become one of the most used music streaming service.
However, being popular does not guarantee a flawless user experience and Spotify has seen its fair share of bugs and issues. Now, desktop users have been facing an issue with the Spotify app lately.
As per multiple reports, those using Spotify on Windows and macOS have been facing a problem where the friend feed is not working properly for them.
Basically, users of the Spotify desktop app are getting an empty friend feed with the ‘Connect with Facebook’ prompt. The Spotify friend feed stays empty even when users are able to successfully connect with Facebook.
Also, generic workarounds like reinstalling the Spotify app are also not helping users which is further complicating matters for them.
Several days ago I wanted to add a new friend, and your system said “hey, you can find your friends through Facebook”, so I thot this was a good idea because he’s a friend on FB. So I tried logging in on Facebook, and now my existing friends have disappeared and all I’m left with is either the “Connect With Facebook” button or “You have 0 friends on Spotify”, which I know is wrong, because ALL of my friends on FB are on spotify.
The user further adds:
So far I’ve tried:
– turning “See what your friends are playing” off and on
– logging out and back in a couple of times
– uninstalling and reinstalling
– updating my /etc/hosts file (per another posts in here).
Nothing has worked.
Any other ideas?
The issue has been around for quite some time now and is preventing Spotify users on Windows and macOS from seeing what their friends are listening to on the app.
A Spotify Community Moderator created a dedicated thread for this issue with empty friend feed way back in August 2021 stating that the relevant teams are working to fix this problem.
However, there have been no updates on the dedicated issue thread from Spotify staff members so far and users reports regarding this issue are still pooling in.
Moreover, another thread on the Spotify Community suggests that users of the mobile app might be facing a similar problem. However, there have been no comments on whether the issue is indeed affecting mobile users or not.
It is also possible that this problem might be occurring due to some fault at Facebook‘s end. However, the fact that Spotify engineers are still working to fix the issue suggests otherwise.
Hopefully, the music streaming giant soon fixes the issue so that desktop users can see what their friends are playing on the app without any hassle.
That said, we will report back with more details as and when we get new information to share so stay tuned.
