Apple’s AirPlay 2 has been available for third-parties since 2018. But for some reason, Spotify has been reluctant to hop onto this technology that enables seamless music streaming.

In fact, Spotify is probably the only major music-related platform that has yet to add support for AirPlay 2. The likes of Sonos and Marshall have had this function for quite some time now.

Last month, Spotify was forced to backtrack on a decision to pause plans to add support for AirPlay 2 on iOS following a backlash on social media.

The company had initially said support for AirPlay 2 was on hold due to “audio driver compatibility issues” that devs were experiencing while working on it.

However, Spotify users weren’t taking any of that, forcing the company to clarify the matter further by noting that plans to add support for the function are still underway.

Unfortunately, there’s still no ETA for this function. But when it does arrive, a Spotify community forum moderator notes that it will also tag along some much-wanted improvements.

Spotify users on Apple TV have had to deal with an annoying issue where multiple audio output never works when streaming to other devices that support AirPlay 2.

According to those affected, selecting multiple audio outputs with AirPlay stops Spotify audio from the source TV. Instead, the last device to be selected is the only one that outputs sound.

Interestingly, this issue has been around the forums for quite some time and it even got fixed, at least according to Spotify.

However, reports haven’t stopped flooding the community forum, implying it was never fully addressed.

And indeed, in May this year, a Spotify forum moderator once again came out to acknowledge the growing reports of issues with multiple audio output on Apple TV when streaming to AirPlay 2 devices.

We’re seeing reports that using AirPlay to stream Spotify from an Apple TV to other AirPlay 2-enabled devices stops the sound on the source Apple TV. The relevant team is aware of this and they are currently looking into it.

After carrying out fresh investigations, it appears Spotify has found a solution for this bug that’s stopping audio from source TV when streaming to AirPlay 2 devices.

According to a forum moderator, Spotify will address this problem with the upcoming support for AirPlay 2. Again, there’s no ETA for this function’s release, but at least we know it’s the one to address this annoying bug.
