If you are into fighting video games, you must have heard of the decades-old Mortal Combat series. Mortal Combat X uses Unreal Engine 3 and was released in April of 2015.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the game is set 25 years after its predecessor.

The game was added to the Xbox Game Pass in 2018, three years after the release of the PC version.

Some reviewers have dubbed Mortal Kombat X as the best game in the series when it comes to the story, characters, and graphics.

Having said that, it looks like Mortal Combat X players are facing a new issue when playing the game on Xbox Series X/S.

According to reports, Mortal Combat X is crashing when players start the story mode while others report that it turns off the console for them.

Some also reported visuals glitches before the game crashes. You can see in the video an example of how it glitches:

Got both MKX and MK11 on sale yesterday and didn’t even get to the first fight in the story mode on MKX before the whole system turns off. Haven’t even wanted to try MK11 because of it. Any fixes besides uninstalling and reinstalling? Already tried that but getting the same results.

I bought the game on Xbox series S, but as soon as I start story mode and start the quick time event the image freezes and my console just turns off. Does anyone know what it can be or how to solve it?

While it is still unclear why Mortal Kombat X is crashing or turning off the Xbox Series X/S, many are frustrated since they are unable to play the game.

Players say they have tried reinstalling the game but it does not seem to help at all.

As it turns out, Microsoft is aware of the Mortal Kombat X crashing issue and has listed it in their list of Known Issues for Game Launches (September 2021).

They also said that it is currently under investigation and that there is no way to bypass the Quick Time Event interaction.

Mortal Kombat X (Console)
– The game may crash while playing in story mode on Xbox Series X|S consoles
– When launching into story mode, your console may crash during a QTE (Quick Time Event) interaction.
– There is currently no workaround to bypass the QTE interactions. The team are investigating and a fix will be on the way very soon.

We will notify you once Microsoft rolls out a fix for the Mortal Kombat crashing issue on the Xbox Series S/X, so make sure to keep checking this page for updates.
