Google to allegedly fix Nest Doorbell Battery white flashing or flickering issue on some units in future update

The Google Nest Camera Battery and Doorbell Battery came out in late August but users have been facing some issues with them. To recall, several user reports suggested that the new Nest Camera Battery does not capture some events.

Also, the video playback from the Nest Camera Battery starts late in the Google Home app. Now, another issue appears to be troubling some Nest Doorbell Battery users.

Google Nest Doorbell Battery

As per several reports from the Nest community, users are noticing white flashing or flickering on their Nest Doorbell Battery. This white flashing or flickering occurs randomly on Google Nest Doorbell Battery.

It is unclear whether this is a hardware issue or something that can be fixed at software level. Also, affected users have pointed out that the exposure of the doorbell camera improves during this white flashing or flickering.

However, this issue is still inconveniencing to users as generic troubleshooting is also not helping users who are still awaiting a proper resolution from the tech giant.

I’ve noticed when the camera wakes up to record an event, a few seconds into the recording the video will flicker, as in briefly blank out and return, and adjust exposure. Kind of like a camera switching from Night mode to Daytime mode, but night mode was never switched on (color before the black out and color after).

Sometimes the event is so short the whole flicker will ruin a good part of the useful video.

I have my wireless doorbell installed to the existing wiring. Anyone else have this issue? I have sample video as well. VAC measured at 13V at the doorbell.

Happens so frequently I can see the flash in a few of the history thumbnails.

According to one of the affected users, Google is aware of the issue with white flashing or flickering on the new Nest Doorbell Battery.

The user even said that the tech giant will fix this issue in a future update which further indicates that it might indeed be a software problem.

Apart from that, the user has also shared a workaround which involves force switch Night Mode to Always Off or On but it is unclear whether the workaround resolves the problem or not.

You’ve been great in doing some troubleshooting steps. Our team is aware of this and we’re working on resolving it in a future software version. We’ll keep you posted once we have an update about this.

All this, however, is still based on speculation as there have been no comments from the tech giant on the matter so far. Thus the details shared by the user should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Google is said to be working on the Home web client for the Nest Doorbell Battery. So, it is possible that a fix for this issue with white flashing or flickering might also arrive in the future.

However, that is possible only if the aforementioned issue is indeed related to the Nest Doorbell Battery software.

Hopefully, Google sheds some more light on the matter soon. That said, we will be back with more details as and when some new development occurs so stay tuned.
