iOS 15 Beta 8 issue with Reddit app running in the background comes to light, Apollo allegedly a better alternative
Apple is in its advanced stages of testing iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 ahead of the official stable release slated for sometime in the next week or so. More on that in our dedicated tracker here.
Throughout the Beta program, we expect to see a few bugs and issues here and there. That is the basic essence of the Beta testing phase of any software, and boy have we had a number.
Of course, some of these bugs are smaller than others and we assume they’ll be addressed before the official release. Sadly though, these bugs aren’t exclusive to the core software as third-party apps are also affected.
Now, users of iPhones who are on the Beta program are noting an abnormal behavior with the Reddit app. This issue seems to go as far back as on the iOS 15 Developer Beta 6.
According to affected persons, the Reddit app uses a lot of background activity, a lot more than even core system apps like Phone and App Store.
(iOS 15 beta 8) I will have to delete the Reddit app, I have background refresh off entirety and this app is running in the background all the time, also in the middle of the night 30 minutes every single hour.
As mentioned, affected users note that the Reddit app stays running in the background for a crazy long time on iOS Beta 8 with some reporting hours of background activity.
In light of this, many users who have been facing a similar issue on their iPhones note that Apollo is a much better option.
These users praise Apollo’s UI, saying it is much more superior to Reddit’s. However, it lacks the chat function and push notifications support, features that are only available on the Reddit app.
Wish Reddit gave 3rd party apps access to the chat function. Only reason I keep the Reddit app around
That does work. I wish I could move to Apollo but the lack of push notifications is a deal breaker (not gonna subscribe just for that)
It remains unclear what exactly causes the Reddit app to linger in the background for that long on iOS 15 Beta 8 and other Beta builds for that matter.
We shall continue to keep an eye on this behavior and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
